Senior Interviews Senior Interviews

The Career Center is coordinating the first quarter Senior Interviews this week. As part of the senior level Personal Finance class, each student participates in a three person panel interview, prepared with a portfolio, ready to discuss their skills, current education and plans for the future. This is not only a graduation requirement, but an important life skill for our students. This week, 165 seniors will participate in their interviews with 62 Lake Orion community volunteers. We are so thankful for the volunteers who give of their time to make the interview an authentic and meaningful experience for our students. If this is something you might be interested in participating in as a volunteer, please email careercenter@lok12.org to be added to the list. There is no volunteer preparation required. All students are granted the same experience so you will be given a set of questions and interview process directions. The next interviews take place in January and March.

Service Hours Service Hours

Students can plan ahead and send an email to a former elementary or middle school teacher and ask to help organize their room, clean, make copies, assist in the class or anything else to give back to them for all the ways in which they gave to the student when they were in their classroom! On LOHS half day, Thursday, October 30, AFTER studying for exams, plan to volunteer! After completing the hours, submit them (within the 30 day window) and list the teacher's email address as the contact for verification.

Five Trunk or Treats are in need of volunteers to set up, pass out candy, and participate in crafts over the next two weeks! Check out x2VOL for all these and more fun festive fall events for service!

NOCC NEWS

Did you know that NOCC facilitates the Youth Action Board (YAB) at Lake Orion High School?

YAB is a group of like-minded students passionate about making and strengthening positive change throughout the school community regarding mental and physical health. Twice a month, we come together to work on initiatives to support student well-being like Mindful Mornings to provide coping skills and support for student mental health, and No Vape November, promoting the importance of a healthy and vape-free lifestyle. If you're compassionate about helping others, want to make new friends, and need an easy way to get those service hours, YAB is for you!

Here are a few pictures from this week's meeting as we worked together to prepare for fun lunch activities to kick off No Vape November and began brainstorming our Mindful Mornings!

If you're interested in joining YAB, you can email nocc@noccmi.org, or just come by one of our meetings in LC Room 1, the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 8:45 a.m.
