Recap from September 3rd Recap from September 3rd

We had an excellent professional learning session last Tuesday. Kelly Bellar joined us and facilitated an outstanding session, for which we're very grateful. Kelly emphasized the importance of directly teaching process skills to students, followed by using an inquiry-based approach to instruct them on content. This method allows for a more effective and engaging learning experience.

Key takeaways:

  1. Direct teaching of process skills
  2. Using inquiry-based approach for content instruction
  3. Embedding high-yield instructional strategies by pairing essential standards with process skills

In the afternoon, teachers had time to work with their collaborative teams. The focus was on combining essential standards with process skills to create activities that can immediately put into action in classrooms.

We are grateful for YOU! Please invite us to see these activities in action!

Strategies in Action! Strategies in Action!

“The aim is to get the students actively involved in seeking evidence: their role is not simply to do tasks as decided by teachers, but to actively manage and understand their learning gains. This includes evaluating their own progress, being more responsible for their learning, and being involved with peers in learning together about gains in learning.” John Hattie

Teams across the district are using the Social Studies Playbook to get students engaged in the content and talking with their peers. Scroll down to see amazing strategies in actions!!!
