The PTO needs your help!
The PTO at New Buffalo Elementary does so many wonderful things to support our staff and students! Participation has decreased over the past few years and we are asking for your help. We would love to have you attend our next meeting to give input. We don't always need help with big or time consuming things. Please consider joining us for one of our monthly meetings.

Mobile Dentist
Mobile Dentist is coming! It will be at New Buffalo Elementary on Monday, March 17. You can either fill out the paper form or visit www.MySchoolDentist.com to sign up.
Snow Gear
Now that winter is in full swing, please remember to send boots, snow pants, gloves, hats, and coats to school! We end up with lots of sad students not being able to play on the playground equipment when they don't have the proper winter gear. Students that don't have snow pants and boots will not be able to leave the black top areas of the playground when there is snow on the ground.
Transportation Reminders
Please help us make the end of the day dismissal easier! Students in kindergarten through 3rd grade must have their end of day transportation plans written in their planners. This ensures that all students get home safely. Late changes to transportation have become problematic! Please remember that the latest time to make transportation changes is 2:30! We understand that emergency situations come up. When it does, please contact Mrs. Bowen at (269) 469-6069. Emailing teachers in the middle of the day is not the correct way to make changes. Many times teachers are busy teaching and don't get to their computer. Calling the office with any changes will ensure that all people impacted are informed of any changes.
Proud to be a Bison!
Sickness
Sickness season is in full swing! We are encouraging lots of handwashing at school. If your child is sick, contact Mrs. Bowen at 269-469-6069 to inform the office of their absence. Below are some tips for helping keep your child healthy.
BASE Updates
1. At BASE, we prioritize student interests when selecting our enrichment activities. Throughout the year, we actively engage with the students to gather their ideas and tailor our offerings to match their interests. Due to the popularity of some of our enrichments, and the availability of supplies, there may be times in which seating for each activity is limited. To ensure fairness to some of these enrichments, and provide every student with the opportunity to participate, we rotate enrichment participation when it requires limited seating space. If your child is unable to join the same enrichment each week, rest assured that they will have a chance to experience all the activities offered throughout the year. Thank you for your understanding and support as we strive to create an engaging and inclusive environment for all students.
2. Any basketball players that are attending NBYS basketball practice- please enter through door 1. If there is no one there to answer the door, please contact your child's coach. They will have someone standing by the door between 5-6 to let parents in! The door will not be unlocked until after 6:00 pm.
3. Science Olympiad forms have been sent home for 3rd-5th grade students! This is a first come first serve basis, and registration closes on January 21st. Science Olympiad starts on Tuesday, February 4th at 4:00.
Positive Behavioral Inteventions and Supports (PBIS) in January
The word of the month for January is Perseverance.
This month we will focus on teaching students how to show perseverance at school. At the end of the month we will have a schoolwide assembly to celebrate all of the hard work of our students.
