Miller Memo
September 17, 2026 Edition
Miller Career & Technology students and parents,
It is hard to believe that today marks the end of the 1st six weeks of the 2026-2027 school year. Wow! The next few holiday months will bring about increased activities and busier schedules. Please read below for a few campus celebrations, initiatives, and reminders.

Report Card Grades
As we close out the first six weeks, I want to take a moment to celebrate the hard work our students have already put into this school year. Report cards provide an opportunity for both reflection and growth, and we encourage students to view their grades as a measure of progress so far and a guide for how to move forward. Whether that means attending tutorials, asking questions in class, or staying more organized with assignments, there are many ways to build on strengths and make improvements. We are proud of the effort our students are showing and look forward to supporting them as they continue to grow and succeed this year.

MCTC Student Ambassadors
We had a huge number of students apply to become 2026 - 2027 MCTC Student Ambassadors. It was so rewarding to read through each application as we made our selections. Below are our ambassadors for the school year - AM students and PM students. Congratulations to them and thank you to everyone who applied!
GPA Exempt Course Information
Katy ISD encourages high school students to pursue their areas of special talents and interests to enrich their academic experience in Career and Technical Education (CTE), Fine Arts, and Athletics. Many CTE courses offered at Miller Career & Technology Center qualify as GPA exempt courses.
What that means: Once approved, students will receive credit for the qualifying GPA exempt course but will have their grade excluded from the GPA and class rank computation. In order to apply for a GPA exemption, students must currently have a 4.0 or above GPA and maintain a B average in the GPA exempt course to maintain eligibility. Students may take a maximum of three (3) credits on a GPA exempt basis during their high school career.
The GPA Exempt Courses Information and Online Application are located within the GPA Exempt tile on MyKaty Cloud.
If a student is interested in applying for a GPA exemption for a qualifying course he/she is currently enrolled in and meets all the criteria above, he/she needs to:
- Complete the online GPA Exempt application located in MyKaty Cloud.
- Submit the application no later than the determined deadline (Thursday, September 19). At this time, if all criteria are met, it will be approved, and a course change will be made to reflect enrollment in a GPA Exempt course.
- Once the student makes the decision to take a course as GPA-exempt, the decision is final and cannot be changed.
Katy Reads: High School District Book Club
Katy Reads: High School District Book Club is a virtual book club that will meet online through the Innovative Pathways Complex - LVHS, MCTC, and RA, culminating in an online event with participating Katy ISD high schools!
During the fall semester, the Innovative Pathways Complex book club will read and discuss Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins and participate in online discussions with participating high school students across the district through the Canvas course.
Students interested in joining the virtual book club may sign up at this link: https://forms.gle/j2xu2CpyhYYHgnLB6.
