PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Thank you for all of the treats this week, it was nice to be taken care of between conferences. I speak for the teachers when I say we really appreciate the opportunity to talk to you about your amazing children. I hope the conversations were productive and gave you a window into your child's school day.

PUSD has put together a Parent Chaperone training. Please watch the recording before you chaperone your student’s next field trip. It is only 20 minutes and it ensures that families and staff are all on the same page regarding field trip protocols.

I appreciate your partnership,

Anne Valva

Hello Beach Families!

What a Halloween Parade! 🎃 The Halloween Parade was a huge success, and we hope everyone had a fun time! Thank you to all the families who came out to cheer on our goblins and ghouls, and to Principal Anne for joining us for coffee on the grassy. See below for a few of our favorite moments!

The Giving Campaign is still in full swing, and we are working toward 100% participation! Any amount your family is comfortable giving is appreciated. Donate here today and let’s keep Beach amazing!

A few upcoming dates for your calendar:

  • Wednesday, November 11: Veterans Day (No school)

LIBRARY LIBRARY

Quick Survey!

As part of my evaluation process, I would appreciate parent feedback on this survey about our library programming. I know we are all exhausted by surveys, so thank you in advance! This should be a quick one. 🙂

Book Fair Wrap Up

I am so deeply grateful to all who volunteered to make our Fall Book Fair such a success. We could not have accomplished it without you all. A special thanks to Katie Simpson who jumped into the role of Book Fair Coordinator this year! I always say Beach Elementary is a school of readers and your children’s enthusiasm is so clearly a result of your own enthusiasm for books and literacy. I loved seeing everyone at the PJ Read Aloud and Taco Thursday events. Thanks to your purchases, we were able to fulfill many items on classroom wishlists and purchase additional items for our school library.

RUBY BRIDGES WALK TO SCHOOL DAY RUBY BRIDGES WALK TO SCHOOL DAY

On Friday, November 13th, please join others in our city and across our nation by wearing purple and walking to school.

  • Meet us on the blacktop at 8:15am for coffee and donut holes and learn more about Ruby Bridges.

  • Walk around campus with the students shortly after 8:30am

  • During the week, visit the Beach library where there are books available about Ruby Bridges.

Last year PUSD joined over 650,000 students in our Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day. We are excited to bring back this event that celebrates Ruby Bridges and her message of kindness and inclusion for all.

Ruby Bridges, Civil Rights Icon & Activist: On November 14, 1960, 6-year-old 1st grader Ruby made history when she integrated William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans. She wanted to go to school and have the opportunity to learn. To keep her safe, she was escorted by 4 federal marshals. Her courage initiated the desegregation of New Orleans' public schools. Now more than 60 years later, Ruby wants to make sure that all children can safely go to school and learn. Her vision is for them to become the next generation of leaders who end racism and all forms of bullying together, one step at a time.

A few years ago elementary students in South SF learned about Ruby and wanted to honor her. The California State Legislature recognized November 14 as Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day.

For more about Ruby Bridges, check out Ruby Bridges Desegregates School and Civil Rights Pioneer Ruby Bridges on Race in America.
