The Eagle Eye - April 24, 2026
#EaglePride
Dear Families,
This week our 2nd graders celebrated our 12th annual Arbor Day Community Event that is run in partnership with the Village of Mundelein. Each year, the Village donates a tree to Washington School for our 2nd graders to help plant. In their classrooms, students learn about the important benefits that trees provide to our lives and our environment. We had two special guests, Mayor Meier joined our celebration and shared a Mayoral Proclamation for Arbor Day, and Adam Schmidt, the Village's ISA certified Arborist, who explained the tradition of our event and gave students some history of the different trees planted at Washington over the years.
Next year is on the horizon! Register your child(ren) now and receive an early bird registration discount of $25.00 per child with completed ONLINE registration, proof of residency and payment due by May 1, 2026.
Registration information can be found here.

Have a great weekend!
Autism Acceptance Month!
Autism or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a developmental condition that affects how a person communicates, interacts with others, and experiences the world around them. It is called a “spectrum” because individuals with autism can have a wide range of strengths, needs, and abilities. Some children may need more support with communication and social skills, while others may excel in specific areas like memory, creativity, or problem-solving. Autism is not something to be “fixed,” but rather understood and supported. By increasing awareness and acceptance, we can create inclusive environments where every child feels valued and has the opportunity to thrive. Autism is simply one part of who a child is, and with understanding and support, all children can learn, grow, and succeed!

Spring STAR Assessment Begins Monday, April 27th
Beginning April 27th, students will participate in our Spring STAR assessments, which help us understand how children have grown in their learning over this school year. Results will be sent home with their final report card.
Our testing schedule will be:
Literacy STAR Test: Week of April 27th
Math STAR Test: Week of May 4th
Make-Up Testing: Week of May 11th
Students take these assessments in small groups, which allows for a calm environment and individualized support throughout the process.
To help your child feel their best, we encourage families to ensure students get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time on testing days. A positive mindset and reassurance go a long way, too!

Let's Show our School Spirit!
Our student leaders created a list of ideas for fun spirit days that we can have at Washington. We took the ideas from their list and will be having Fun Friday Spirit Days through the end of the year. Here are our May Spirit Days!
Repeated Information
Celebrating Superhero Day!!! April 28th
On April 28th, our school will be joining Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago in celebrating Superhero Day! While we will not be participating as a fundraising site this year, we are excited to take part in the spirit of the day with a school-wide dress-up day.
This special day honors children who are bravely fighting illnesses, and it’s also an opportunity for us to celebrate and support the incredible strength of our own students who navigate a wide range of abilities—both visible and invisible—each and every day.
Students are invited to come to school dressed as their favorite superheroes as we build empathy, celebrate resilience, and remind our children that their unique strengths are something to be proud of.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to share that next year we plan to participate as a fundraising school, with the effort being organized and led by our Mechanics Grove students—more information to come!
We can’t wait to see our school community come together for this meaningful and fun day! 🦸♀️🦸♂️
Attendance Mystery Challenge!
The more letters we reveal, the closer we get to a school-wide celebration!
You can help by sending your child to school each day and asking them about the letters we’ve uncovered. Let’s keep it going this spring!

Green Over Screen - From the WA Family Engagement Team
The American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes "that play is fundamental to children's healthy development and that their immersion in electronic media takes away from real play."
Here are some ways to support Green over Screen:
- Make a list of your favorite things to do outside (as a family or independent). Make strips of paper with the ideas and add them to a jar. Prioritize that 1-2 have to be pulled daily.
- Making sure you have enticing toys children want to play with. Water toys, chalk, bikes and roller skating items can lead to siblings or neighbors joining in on the fun.
- Take the inside- outside. Play your favorite board game outside.
- Neighborhood scavenger hunt. How many spring things can you find?
- Make it a policy that when you play outside- there is NO technology.
Pop-ins with the Principal!
Now that we are settled into the school year, I'd love to connect with you and learn more about what's on your mind and your hopes and dreams for our school community. We can meet in person, virtually, or chat over the phone.
If you are interested in connecting, please sign up for a time using this link!!

Changes to Dismissal
If you need to change your child's regular dismissal, you need to email or call Pam and Abby in the main office. They oversee all dismissal changes and communicate with supervisors and staff to ensure that students get to the correct locations. Our staff do not always have time to check their email and we don't want a change to get missed.
Finally, all changes must be called in to the office by 2:00 pm
Our office number is 847-949-2714
D75 BPAC 🌎
BPAC meets regularly beyond the required four times per year. BPAC plans for family engagement, family education, and cultural events to support the multilingual community. The group creates specific goals each year based on identified family needs, discusses multilingual programs by building, suggests additional topics for upcoming parent education programs and reviews the district’s annual TBE/TPI application.
Please consider joining our BPAC and attending the meetings.
Financial Assistance
Applications for fee waivers are available online at the Financial Assistance page. To apply, families must complete the required application. Once completed, forms may be dropped off at the Mundelein Elementary School District 75 Office, located at 470 N. Lake Street, Mundelein, IL 60060.
If you prefer to schedule an appointment, please contact District 75 Registrar Patty DeLozier at (847) 949-2700, extension 2014.
