Congratulations Elliot Rowe!! Congratulations Elliot Rowe!!

Hosford Wrestler Elliot Rowe Earns 3rd Place at Oregon Middle School State Championships

Hosford Husky eighth grader Elliot Rowe made an impressive mark this season by securing a third-place finish in the 220-pound weight class at the Oregon Middle School State Championships, held March 14, 2026, at West Albany High School in Albany, Oregon.

Competing amongst 39 of the top athletes from across the state at 220 lbs. on his way to the state championships, Elliot demonstrated determination, skill, and resilience. A second place finish at the Northern Regional qualifier at Glencoe HS stamped his ticket to the championships in West Albany. After an early first-round loss, Elliot battled back through the consolation rounds, earning five consecutive pinfall victories to claim his spot on the podium and bring home a bronze medal.

Elliot’s success reflects his strong work ethic and commitment to improvement. In addition to competing with the Cleveland Cluster PIL team, he dedicated extra hours training with the Portland Mat Club and attending camp at Oregon State University. Those efforts paid off at the state tournament.

“This is the result of consistent effort and a great attitude,” said Coach Curt Smeller. “Finishing third at the middle school state tournament is a huge accomplishment. As one of our eighth-grade leaders, it shows that our program is working. Elliot is only the second PIL wrestler to place at the boy's tournament in the past decade, joining 2019 Hosford Husky state champion Logan Medford. I couldn’t be more proud of his achievement.”

The Oregon Middle School State Championships is widely regarded as one of the most competitive wrestling tournaments in the state. Unlike the high school level, which crowns multiple champions across different divisions, this tournament brings together top finishers from five geographic regions to determine a single state champion in each weight class.

With a strong finish at state, Elliot has set a solid foundation for continued success as he prepares to compete at the high school level.

Dear Families,

The furlough days have passed the school board. Please note that on May 1st there is no school, and June 5th will be the last day of school.

We were able to move the Oaks Park field trip for the 8th grade students to June 5th, and we're trying to secure Cleveland HS for promotion on June 4th in the evening. We are unable to keep promotion on June 9th because it is a furlough day. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Thank you to those of you who submitted feedback on our Back to School Night. We will be drafting some changes to the structure and will send it out for additional feedback. I'll also add some days for Principal Coffees for those of you that are interested.

Have a great week,

Jill Liddle, Principal

Candy Grams Fundraiser Candy Grams Fundraiser

Next week we will be selling Candy Grams at Hosford!

Typically, this is a student-to-student fundraiser, where kids can purchase cards and candy for their friends to show their appreciation for one another and raise money at the same time, but this year we are opening it up to friends and families too!

Starting Tuesday, 4/7, you can log on to School Pay and buy a Candy Gram for your student for $5.

All you need to do is tell us their name, grade, advisory class, the message you'd like us to write to them, and who it's from. Leadership will do the rest! Their Candy Gram will be delivered to them on Friday, April 17th!

This is an awesome way to spread the love AND support our school! Feel free to share the School Pay link with other family members!

Candy Gram purchasing will close Sunday, April 12 to give leadership kids time to put them all together. Thanks for supporting our kids and our school!

Outdoor School Tip for 6th Graders Outdoor School Tip for 6th Graders

With outdoor school coming soon, some 6th graders may be feeling nervous. This is normal! Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing ideas about how to help your 6th grader get more comfortable with the idea of sleeping away from home.

This week's tip: Consider having sleepovers with other Hosford families or extended family, and practice turning devices over for no-phone bedtime.

Back To School Night Feedback Back To School Night Feedback

Our Hosford Equity Committee is wondering how our Back to School Night is serving you. This is the event in September where you join me in the gym, and then move through each class period that your child has. The intention is for you to see each teacher, be in each classroom and hear about what students will be learning and how you can support at home.

Our Equity Committee is wondering if this is the best format. Specifically, they are thinking about the rigidity of the time schedule and how this makes families feel if they are not able to arrive early or keep up with the quick schedule.

Please share your thoughts with us. If it's working and you like it, please let us know. If it's not and you'd like to see it change, please let us know. Your voice matters. We are all here in service of you and your children. Click here to share your thoughts.

Attention 8th Grade Families! Attention 8th Grade Families!

We still need 5 chaperones to join us! If you are available from 1:30-4pm on April 24th, please email kacaleal@pps.net. Thank you!
