Week 2
Dear Elmore School Families,
We had another great week of school. This week our theme was individuality, and honoring each others differences. Students made All About Me Owls as a way to share about themselves, and in art we made Self Portraits which are displayed proudly on our bulletin board.
This week we also began our Digital Citizenship lessons with a focus on safe and responsible use of technology. As you may have heard the School District has a new Technology policy which has a plan for each age band. The plans are designed to be revisited annually and adjusted as needed. In short, students will be using technology for very specific, teacher-led instruction, with a designated time (start and stop) not to exceed 20 minutes 3-4 times per week (maximum). There may be exceptions to this when we are working on specific projects, but that will be a rare exception. The other exception may be during District testing windows where students need to use on-line platforms to perform the test. You can read about the new plan here. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BO_Bx8CwAt1AfgYQ6ZwQPBRjCfhFaZBxfOf1v--1ovE/edit?tab=t.0
We had our first week of specials with Physical Education, Guidance, and Music taking place on Wednesday. Please be sure to send sneakers and a water bottle on Wednesdays for PE.
As you may have noticed, our school apple tree is FULL of apples this year! On Wednesday we used some of our recess time to pick apples. We willed up two big bowls and the tree is still covered with apples. On Thursday we had a fun filled morning learning about how apples grow, we read poetry about apples, and each student wrote a Acrostic poem about apples. During morning meeting students played a musical game involving passing an apple around the circle, and we grew into apple trees (yoga tree pose) while singing another apple song. Later, students made apple prints and participated in an apple tasting in which they collected data about their favorite apples. We used the data collected to create a pictograph to show our class results. And, as is our tradition, we made homemade applesauce. Students helped cut up the apples and they helped put the cooked down apples through a food mill to create applesauce. We added a bit of maple syrup and cinnamon to finish off the tasty treat which students enjoyed eating with their lunch. What a great morning of integrated learning!
Early this week we were sad to learn one of our new students is moving to Cabot. It is unfortunate to see him go, but we wish him all the best as he transition to his new school. Tuesday will be his last day at the Elmore School.
Lunch: School Hot Lunch will be available next week on Tuesday and Thursday. See the Menu below for options. Meat sandwiches or PB&J are available Tuesday-Friday. Please send me an email at mailto:diane.nicholls@lamoillesouth.org with your orders for the week by 6:00 pm on Monday.
Family Hot Lunch is a long standing tradition at the Elmore School. It helps connect families with the school and provides a home to school connection which is valued deeply. In order to continue this special tradition we need families to volunteer to bring lunch. Please consider signing up to provide one home-cooked meal for the school by using the green "meal train" button below the school lunch menu. It works best for parents to bring lunch at the designated lunch time, however, if you are not able to bring the lunch in person at our lunch time, you can drop it off in the morning and we can help by keeping it warm and and will serve students for you.
