Our Vision:
Pride in Self, Pride in Community, Pride in Learning
Help your student retain reading gains!
As we wrap up our end-of-year reading assessments, we are seeing some amazing results! We're so proud of the hard work our teachers, students, parents, and community reading partners have put into this, and we want to see students retain all the ground they have gained throughout the summer. There are some very simple things you can do as a parent to keep your student from experiencing "summer slide" and even to help them continue to improve:
- Read, every day, in some form:
- Read to them.
- Have them read to you, their siblings, grandparents, the family pet--just encourage reading aloud--it builds fluency.
- Keep track of their "reading streak." Mark on a calendar every day that they read X number of minutes, and see how many days/weeks/months you can build an unbroken reading streak.
- Make a trade for something they want: "You can stay up 30 minutes past your bedtime, but you have to use 15 minutes of that time to read."
- Use free resources. The Heartland Library system has branches as close as Eldon and Iberia. Get a library card, sign up for free e-books through Libby. They are a great resource!
We are working hard to build a culture of readers--not just in school, but as a lifetime enthusiasm--and your encouragement is a huge support for us. Please share other ideas for how you encourage reading at your house with all of us!

Principal's Corner
The last week of school — it is hard to imagine that this school year is almost over. It feels like it has been the quickest year yet!
Even though it is the final week, we still have many important activities taking place, including field trips, awards assemblies, finals, and i-Ready testing for a few grade levels. Please continue to send your students to school each day ready to learn and participate.
We would also like to thank our Lions family and community members for the many thoughtful gestures shown during Staff Appreciation Week. Our staff was truly grateful for the gifts, treats, meals, and kind words of support. Your generosity and encouragement mean so much and remind us how fortunate we are to be part of such a caring community.

Are you interested in becoming a substitute teacher?
If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher and you do not have the required 36 college hours, you can do an online course that will allow you to get a substitute certificate. Here is the link to that course, and here is the link to the DESE web page that gives you more information about what you need to do to get a substitute certification. Our daily rate for subs for the 2025-26 school year is $105/day.
