NOTES FROM YOUR PRINCIPALS NOTES FROM YOUR PRINCIPALS

Greetings Susan B. Anthony EAGLES and families! We are finishing up our sixth day of school, and what a great start to the school year we have had! Our EAGLES have been SOAR-ing from day 1! We had set a goal of 750 SOAR tickets by the end of the day on Thursday, Sept. 3rd. Our students CRUSHED IT and have already earned 889 SOAR tickets for demonstrating SAFETY, OWNERSHIP, ACCEPTANCE, & RESPECT. When our EAGLES follow these values, our school is a great place to learn. Kudos to our awesome staff for their efforts to teach, model, practice, and reinforce these core values. We will celebrate next Friday, Sept. 11th with freezer popsicles on the playground.

Volunteer @ School!

Research has shown that positive adult relationships improves student achievement. We want to foster these relationships with you (our parents), as well as our community partners (Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Promising Futures Foundation, and all of our mentors). We want to increase the number of parent volunteers at Susan B. Anthony. Opportunities will be available through your child's classroom and our PTO. I'd encourage you to be involved in whatever manner is best for you.

If you plan to volunteer this year, you will find more information including the Volunteer Registration Form on the Volunteering page of the Sioux Falls School District website. You only need to complete Part 1 of the form, unless you would like to be an unsupervised volunteer. Unsupervised volunteers need to complete Part 2, which includes an online background check.

Susan B. Anthony Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Susan B. Anthony Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

The Susan B. Anthony Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) held our first meeting on the year this week. We were excited to share the many things the PTO does to support our students and school. We have some events coming up that will need volunteers. Please see the information below about upcoming events and our Fall Fundraiser.

All School Skate & Pizza Party ~ Tuesday, Sept. 8th

It's time for our first ALL SCHOOL SKATE PARTY at Skate City (2901 W 3rd Street) on Tuesday, Sept. 8th from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. Skaters will also receive a piece of pizza at the event. Check your email for more information!

Fall Fundraiser ~ Kick-off on Tuesday, Sept. 8th

The PTO Fall Fundraiser will kick off on Tuesday, Sept. 8th. Your child will bring home information about the fundraiser. Families can choose to participate or not participate. Students are not allowed to go door-to-door to sell items. We ask that students only sell to adults that their parents/guardians know, such as family members and friends. The Fall Fundraiser will end on Sept. 22nd, and the orders will arrive by Parent Teacher Conferences in October.

October Parent Teacher Conferences ~ Book Fair & Teacher Meal

Fall Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 13th and Thursday, Oct. 15th. The PTO will host a Book Fair during conferences, and we will need volunteers to help at the Book Fair. The PTO will also provide a meal for teachers on Thursday, Oct. 15th after school. In a few weeks you will receive an email to volunteer for the Book Fair or donate items for the teacher meal. The PTO appreciates your help in any way that works for you!

Student Drop-off & Pickup Procedures Student Drop-off & Pickup Procedures

The beginning and end of each school day is a very busy and crowded time around Susan B. Anthony. Our #1 priority is to ensure the safety of our students. In order to do that and have a smooth arrival and dismissal of students each learning day, please review the following reminders:

  • Students eating breakfast at school can be dropped off at Door A beginning at 7:30 A.M. Students can NOT be dropped off before 7:30 A.M., as there is not any supervision. The front doors also remain locked until 7:30 A.M.
  • The cutout area in front of the school at Door A is NOT for parking. It is for dropping off students. Students should exit the passenger side of the car to avoid walking across traffic on Dakota Avenue. Students can be dropped off on the playground beginning at 7:40 A.M. If you park your car to walk to the playground, you are encouraged to use the parking lot or park on the street on the Dakota Avenue and Mark Twain Lane sides of the playground.
  • The area in front of the school on Dakota Avenue (Door A) is designated for parents who are staying in their car to drop off or pick up their students. Cars should not be left unattended in this drop-off/pick-up area.
  • Daycare vans drop off and pick up near the playground gate on Center Avenue.
  • In the morning supervision on the playground begins at 7:40 A.M., and students are let in the building at 7:50 A.M.
  • After school students are not allowed to play on the playground after school unless a parent/guardian is on the playground with them. With over 400 students dismissing, it's not safe to have students unattended and playing on the playground.
  • Please see the poster below and watch this short video about utilizing drop-off lanes at schools in a safe, respectful manner.

Canvas ~ Learning Management Platform Canvas ~ Learning Management Platform

The Sioux Falls School District continues to utilize Canvas as our Learning & Assessment Management System, which provides students with a digital classroom. The platform offers a systematic approach to sharing classroom lessons and communication for students and parents, ensuring consistency of access and experience for students and families regardless of school or grade level. Parents/Guardians will have access as “observers” to monitor assignments and expectations. Watch for more information on how to connect to your student’s Canvas course.

Healthy Foods Guide

At Susan B. Anthony student safety is very important. While we want students to celebrate their birthdays with their friends, we also want to be sure to keep our students with allergies safe. The Sioux Falls School District encourages families to consider healthy snacks and non-food items. Please see the guidelines below regarding birthday treats. Home-baked goods are not permitted.

We also encourage families to enjoy a lunch with their child. Parents can order a school lunch prior to 8:15 A.M. Commercial "fast food" should not be brought in or delivered during the school day. You are welcome to check your child out at lunch to eat off-site.
