We are so grateful for your baking skills, generosity and care!! Thank you!

Dear Families,

This week is sure to be a fun filled adventure. We have a few field trips, the talent show, principal's tea, and our quarterly celebrations! Stay tuned for an official principal's tea invitation. If you come to the tea, you are welcome to go the 6th grade quarterly celebration and see how we celebrate together.

For the talent show, if your child is performing and you'd like to come watch, please feel free to join us. It is a packed house, so please keep that in mind.

As we near the end of the year, students are expected to continue to stay focused on learning, being friendly and working together as a community. Students who engage in behavior that results in an office referral will not be permitted to attend the Oaks Park Field trip (8th grade) or Movie (7th grade) on June 5th, 2026. We are talking with students about this at school and would love it if you talk with your child at home. You may review office managed behaviors by reading the Student Right and Responsibilities Handbook.

We hope you have a wonderful week!

This resource tells what learning activities were assigned in each class. It is a great way to check on assignments with your child. Middle school is a time when students need help developing the routine of reflection and organizing materials. This resource is your support for those conversations.

Outdoor School Tips

A little homesickness is a very common occurrence at Outdoor School. The staff and teachers work to keep children active and engaged in the activities at Outdoor School. Most homesickness fades away after the first night. To help prepare your child for success, before their departure encourage them to have a good time; clarify that “you want them to enjoy Outdoor School,” “build memories,” and “return home with stories to tell them.” For many students, this may be their first extended period away from home. Reassuring your child about the fun you want them to have at Outdoor School decreases the likelihood of homesickness. Don't promise that you'll come to get them if they call. Write them letters about how much fun you hope they are having--not about how much you miss them. Addresses for writing letters can be found on the Sites page.

Cleveland HS/Marshall Field Trip Cleveland HS/Marshall Field Trip

The 8th grade field trip to Marshall has a timing change. All transportation in the district is tied up in the afternoon, so we are shifting our field trip to the morning. We will leave Hosford at 9:30 and return at 11:45 in time for lunch. All 8th grade students are included in this field trip regardless of what high school they will be attending. We look forward to touring the building, hearing about CHS, and high school in general!

Candy Grams Student to Student Candy Grams Student to Student

Student-to-Student candy gram sales start Monday!

Each candy gram is $1 to send to a friend.

Students need to know their friend's first and last name, their advisory teacher, write a kind message, and who it's from.

Students should bring in money to give to leadership students when they turn in their completed cards. Leadership students will attach candy to the cards and deliver them in advisory classes on Friday along with all of the parent-bought cards!

Measles Outbreak Measles Outbreak

April 10, 2026

Dear Families and Staff,

As you may know, there is a measles outbreak in Oregon. Per the Oregon Health Authority, there are 11 reported cases throughout the state. Multnomah County reported its first measles case this year on March 26, 2026. In consultation with our public health partners, the Multnomah Education Service District (MESD) and the Multnomah County Health Department (MCHD), we are recommending steps to prevent illness and outlining action steps should measles impact our school community.

What is measles?

  • Measles is a highly contagious respiratory disease and can have serious complications, including hospitalization and death. Initial symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and sore throat. Typically, a rash develops near the hairline or neck and spreads to the rest of the body.

  • Measles can be especially dangerous for babies and young children but can cause severe disease in people of all ages.

Measles may be prevented through vaccinations. Two doses of the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine are recommended for children (typically given at 12 months of age and 4 years old) and are 97% effective at preventing measles for life. Adolescents and adults without immunity to measles can receive two doses of MMR vaccine 28 days apart.

If measles occurs at our school:

  • Our public health partners will perform a public health investigation to identify any students or staff who may have been exposed, while maintaining the privacy of the individual that was diagnosed.

  • Vaccination records of those who have been exposed to measles while at school will be reviewed. Students and staff who are unvaccinated or are unable to provide documentation of immunity to measles may be excluded from school/work for at least 21 days. Evidence of immunity to measles can include:

    • Documentation of measles-containing vaccine, such as the Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine; or,

    • Laboratory records of antibody tests showing immunity; or,

    • Laboratory records of previous measles diagnosis; or,

    • Birth before 1957

  • Any excluded students or staff will also be asked to stay home to avoid exposing others in the community.

Recommendations:

  • Review your/ your students' vaccine records and stay up to date with vaccines. Call and schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider or at any PPS Student Health Center, as needed.

  • Exposed staff should be prepared to provide evidence of immunity upon request.

  • Review the symptom-based exclusion chart and stay home from school or work if you are unwell.

  • Monitor yourself and household members for symptoms of measles. If you believe you/your student might have measles or been exposed to measles, call your healthcare provider or medical office for further direction. Seek emergency care as needed and call ahead of your arrival to avoid spreading the virus to others.

For more information about measles, visit the Oregon Health Authority webpage. If you have questions or concerns, please call your healthcare provider or Multnomah County Health Department at 503-988-3406.

Sincerely,

Outdoor School Tip for 6th Graders Outdoor School Tip for 6th Graders

With outdoor school coming soon, some 6th graders may be feeling nervous. This is normal! Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing ideas about how to help your 6th grader get more comfortable with the idea of sleeping away from home.

This week's tip: Consider having sleepovers with other Hosford families or extended family, and practice turning devices over for no-phone bedtime.

Attention 8th Grade Families! Attention 8th Grade Families!

Students will be headed to Marshall on April 24th for a glimpse into their freshman year. Cleveland staff will be ready to greet students and answer all their questions. We still need 5 chaperones to join us! If you are available from 1:30-4pm on April 24th, please email kacaleal@pps.net. Thank you!
