Are you a Carrot, Egg, or Coffee Bean?...
Life is like a pot of boiling water. We all face "heat"—stress, difficult bosses, or personal setbacks. But how we respond defines our environment.
When faced with boiling water:
The Carrot goes in hard and comes out soft and weak.
The Egg goes in fragile and comes out hardened and cynical.
The Coffee Bean is different. It doesn’t let the water change it; it changes the water. Today, we’re talking about how to stop being a victim of your environment and start becoming the transformational force in the room.

Message for the Week:
Message from Mr. Tejkl
What will you choose?...
Good morning!
In every life, there is "boiling water." It is the inevitable pressure of our environments—the looming deadlines, the fractured relationships, or the sudden setbacks that turn up the heat without our permission. Author and speaker Damon West suggests that the most important question isn’t how we escape the water, but who we become once we’re in it. West, who developed this "Coffee Bean" philosophy during his darkest moments in the prison system, realized that we all have a choice in how we respond to the "pots" of life.
Most people react to pressure in one of two ways. Some are like the carrot: they start strong and unyielding, but the moment things get hot, they lose their edge and become soft and weak. Others are like the egg: they start fragile and fluid, but the heat hardens them. They emerge from stress cynical, rigid, and emotionally calloused. In both cases, the environment dictates their state. They are victims of the water.
The coffee bean, however, plays by different rules. As West and co-author Jon Gordon illustrate, the bean is unique because it doesn’t let the water change it; instead, it changes the water. When the heat is at its peak, the bean releases its essence, transforming a colorless pot of liquid into something rich and powerful. It doesn't see boiling water as a threat, but as a catalyst to release its true potential.
Being a "coffee bean" is a conscious decision to lead from the inside out. It is the realization that you don’t have to be a reflection of the negativity around you. Instead of reacting like a thermometer that just reads the temperature, you act like a thermostat that sets it. This week, when the pressure rises, remember West’s fundamental truth: your power is on the inside. Don’t just endure the heat—use it to brew something extraordinary.
Have a great rest of your week!
Sincerely,
Tucker Tejkl
