Townsend Elementary School Where you get a WORLD Class Education with a Small Town Feel

September 13, 2026

Dismissal

The school day is officially over at 3:45 pm. Any parent or guardian wishing to pick up a student early must do so no later than 3:15 pm. Because the end of the school day is a busy time, please make arrangements in advance to ensure your child is picked up by 3:15 pm. Early-dismissal requests may be submitted through the Appo Absence Request Form, which is also available under the Parents section of the school and district websites. The form is submitted directly to the main office.

Classes conclude at 3:45 p.m. Walkers will be dismissed at 3:43 p.m., parent pick-up will begin at 3:45 p.m., and buses will depart at 3:55 p.m.

Please arrive on time to receive your child at dismissal, as school staff are not available to provide childcare after the school day ends. Families in need of before- or after-school care may contact the Child Development Director at the Middletown Family YMCA, at (302) 510-1166 or another off site after school care provider.

Reminders

As a reminder, please label your child’s belongings—including water bottles, jackets, book bags, lunch boxes, and other personal items—with their first and last name. Clearly labeling these items helps us return them quickly. Unlabeled belongings are often placed in our lost and found and may remain unclaimed. Thank you for helping us keep track of your child’s belongings!

Parent Booster Organization

We are excited to share that we are partnering with the Town of Townsend to host an Outdoor Movie night on October 2nd from 6-8:30 at The Townsend Municipal Park. Snacks and Two Friends Coffee truck will available for purchase.

IPad Insurance

Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 were given an ipad and charging cord and block last week. IPads will remain at school until beginning of year testing is complete. Please follow this link to sign up for your insurance.

Insurance Coverage: The District understands that an electronic device can be broken. In an effort to contain costs, we have instituted an insurance policy to assist parents with repair and replacement. Families are required to participate in the insurance plan in order for their students to take the IPad home.

Costs:
*Annual Premium $35.00 (Non-Refundable)
*Deductible: 1st Incident $50.00, 2nd Incident $50.00, 3rd Incident 100% of cost to repair

Coverage: The following items will be covered under the policy
*Accidental Damage
*Theft (must be reported to the police and have Find my iPhone active)
*Fire, flood or natural disaster

Not Covered: The following items are not covered under the policy
*Loss
*Intentional damage
*Theft that occurs when IPad is not properly secured
---Left in an unlocked area or vehicle
---Left in an unsecured book bag

Replacement:
The cost to replace an IPad that is lost or damaged through misuse or negligence and, therefore, not covered by the District insurance policy, will be $299.00. Charging cord - $19.00, Charging Block - $19.00.
