Principals Message
Quincy High School Students and Families,
We hope you had a wonderful winter break and holiday season and look forward to 2024 being an amazing year at Quincy High School.
Congratulations to all of our seniors who are doing great things and making commitments to college, career, and military after graduation. Please follow 2024.qhscommits on Instagram to share in the celebration!
A reminder that quarter two grades close on January 26th so it is time for students to be checking grades, completing make-up work, and preparing for end of term assessments. There were 886 students on the quarter one honor roll (celebrated below in this newsletter) and we look forward to celebrating the academic success of even more students this term.
Thanks for your continued support,

Lions Club Speech Contest
On Wednesday, December 13, QHS students Lauren Affleck, Jomana Kmail, and Robert Mbrice, showcased their skills in the Lions Club Youth Speech Contest, impressing the audience with their insightful speeches on historical figures.
Under the theme "With which historical figure would you most like to speak," each student delivered a historically accurate imaginary conversation. Lauren Affleck shared an engaging conversation with Nellie Bly, Jomana asked some pointed questions of Theodore Herzl, and Robert had a lively discussion with Robert Kennedy.
The students' participation in the Lions Club Youth Speech Contest demonstrated their eloquence, knowledge, and creativity in bringing historical figures to life through imaginative discussions.
"We were truly impressed by Lauren, Jomana, and Robert's presentations. They showed a remarkable understanding of history and its relevance to today," said Jennifer Mennelly of the Lions Club.

Half Day Advisory Period - New This Year
During the 2023-2024 school year, QHS has introduced an advisory period into our new schedule. On each Early Release day this year, students will return to their homerooms during the second period of the day for Advisory. The Culture and Climate Committee is providing all homeroom teachers with materials for each of these advisory periods throughout the school year. Our focus during the January Advisory is on Study Habits (1/10) and Community Building (1/24).
Future Advisory Period topics include:
February 14: Black History Month
March 13: Women's History Month
April 10: Arab American Heritage Month
May 8: Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Student IDs - Now Required!
Student ID's have now been delivered for all students who had their pictures taken this year. We now ask that all students carry their QHS Student ID with them at all times and/or have a picture of it on their phone. We will be using the student ID barcode to sign students in and out of school. Previous year's ID barcodes work so if you have your old QHS student ID, please start carrying it now!
Updated Dismissal Policy
Attendance in school for the entire day is extremely important for student success and while parents and guardians always have the right to dismiss students, we strongly encourage all students to remain in school and attend classes until the end of each and every school day.
In order to minimize disruptions and provide a welcoming, safe, and respectful learning environment for all Quincy High School students, call-out dismissals will not be allowed on certain dates listed below. On these dates, students who need to be dismissed for any reason must turn in a valid note prior to that day and or a Parent/Guardian must be present at the school to sign them out.
More information on dismissals can be found here: QHS Student Dismissal Information

QHS Interdisciplinary TEAM
Our Interdisciplinary Teacher Teams continued our unit of study on special education and how to best support our students who have an IEP or 504 plan. We recently analyzed several sample IEPs in the context of a few specific lessons and brainstormed ways that a teacher could make the lesson more accessible. Samples of lessons with a robust list of accommodations were shared as exemplars. This resource was prepared by a group of our colleagues which included members of our special education staff. Teachers then spent some time working to generate ideas for how they might integrate these types of strategies into their own classes.
