October is Upon Us, NMS!

Hello Northwood Middle School Families,

As we settle into October, our Northwood Middle School students are continuing to Level Up, one day at a time! Building routines, understanding expectations, and strengthening relationships are all important parts of a successful school year. Through our Level Up: It’s as Easy as A, B, C theme, we are encouraging students to focus on A—Attendance, B—Behavior, and C—Content as they work toward personal growth and success.

We know that middle school is a time of tremendous growth and change. Each day brings new opportunities for students to level up academically, emotionally, and behaviorally. Whether it is arriving ready to learn, making positive choices, navigating friendships, persevering through a challenging assignment, or taking responsibility for a mistake, every step forward matters! Growth doesn't happen all at once; it happens through daily effort, reflection, and a willingness to keep trying.

As our students develop greater independence, we intentionally begin to step back and give them opportunities to problem-solve, advocate for themselves, and take ownership of their learning and choices. This doesn't mean stepping away from support; rather, it means working together to help our students build the confidence and skills they need to become responsible, resilient, and successful young adults.

We are so grateful for the partnership between home and school as we help our students Level Up! Your communication, encouragement, and collaboration reinforce the importance of consistent expectations and help our students recognize that we are all on the same team. Together, we can celebrate progress, learn from setbacks, and encourage each student to keep moving forward.

• Our Virtual Petey Points are being used through ClassDojo. Ask your students how many points he or she has earned thus far for following our schoolwide rules!
• Our first Quarterly Incentive will take place on the afternoon of October 23rd. Our grade level teams are creating a fun filled amount of choices by which to celebrate student success. We can't wait to celebrate!
• Did you know that students can purchase Blind Bags during their lunches using their Virtual Petey Points? These bags are student selected from one of the three categories: Self Care Bag, Supply Bag or Snack Bag. Ask your student if he or she has purchased one yet this year!
• Students who wish to participate in our Winter Dance this year can only attend IF they haven't had accrued out of school or in school suspensions (OSS or PIC). Our students are fully aware of this, though we wanted to share this with our school community aware as well.
