PRINCIPAL UPDATE PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Dear Sheiko Families,

What a fantastic time of year it is at Sheiko—so much learning, exploring, and singing! Can your student sing "The Sheiko School Song"? You will get to hear the "live version" at our Kindergarten Concert on June 3rd or at 5th Grade Promotion on June 5th. Mr. Malisow and Mrs. Strutton will have their promotion from 8:45-9:45 and Mr. Wilson and Ms. Dinning's classes will have their promotions from 10-11.

I also wanted to take the time to thank you for all of the help at Field Day today! It was a huge success! Our 5th graders really did a fantastic job - especially since our campers were pretty tuckered out on the bus ride home from Camp Tanuga! Our "Big Announcement" this week is that our 5th grade band, orchestra, and choir concert is at West Bloomfield Middle School on Wednesday, May 28th. Students should arrive at 6:30 p.m. We cannot wait to see all of our Sheiko families at this special event.

Have a wonderful weekend, and goooooooooooooo Lakers!

Warm regards,

Blaine McDowell

NWEA NWEA

This spring, West Bloomfield students took part in the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment through NWEA. Please see the accompanying letter to view your child’s NWEA MAP report.

The explanation below is intended to support your review of your child’s NWEA MAP Family Report

  • MAP is a computer adaptive test that determines a student’s instructional level and measures a student’s growth in reading and mathematics.

  • No single data point or assessment type provides a complete picture of a child’s achievement.

  • A student on average will get about 50% of the questions right and 50% of the questions wrong.

  • After each MAP Growth test, your student receives a RIT score that reflects their performance. Think of this score like marking height on a growth chart. You can tell how tall your child is at various points in time and how much they have grown between one stage and another. The goal is for this score to increase over time.

  • Your student’s RIT score is compared to other students at the same grade level who took the MAP assessment. This comparison is used to create a Percentile Rank score. A student with a Percentile Rank of a 65 indicates the student performed better than 65% of other students who took the MAP test at their grade level at that time of year.

  • This report will show your child’s Achievement (RIT and Percentile) and Growth (Percentile).
