Eye on FISD
April 9 2026
From Dr. Gilstrap
April is here, and with it comes one of the busiest stretches of the school year. We’ve officially kicked off state testing this week across our campuses. We want you to know that we are doing everything we can to support your student during this time. At the same time, it’s important to us that our families hear this clearly: your child is more than a test score. These assessments are one measure, not the whole picture of who they are or what they can accomplish. Our focus remains on helping every student grow, build confidence, and leave our schools prepared for what comes next.
This season is full in all the best ways. Banquets, competitions, performances, and sporting events are happening across the district, and graduation is right around the corner. It’s a time that reflects a lot of hard work from our students and staff, and we’re proud of what they continue to achieve both inside and outside the classroom. With larger crowds at events, safety remains a top priority, and we all play a role in maintaining a secure environment for our students, staff, and community.
We also hope you’re settling into and enjoying the four-day instructional weeks. We know that extra day can be helpful for families. When possible, we encourage you to use that time to schedule appointments and plan ahead so students can be present and engaged during the school week. Daily attendance still matters, and we want your child here, learning and connected.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our schools. Strong schools are built through strong partnerships with our families and community.
Together, We Thrive.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gilstrap
Superintendent

School Library Advisory Council Information
The School Library Advisory Council was established in accordance with Senate Bill 13 and district board policy to support the review and selection of library materials. The SLAC works collaboratively with FISD staff to evaluate and recommend titles to include in our school libraries. Following SLAC approval, the recommended list of titles is published on the FISD website for a 30 day public review period to invite community input and ensure alignment with local standards and values. After reviewing any feedback received, the finalized list is then presented to the FISD Board of Trustees for consideration and final approval prior to purchase. The campus lists are available on the FISD Library Services webpage and are open for community review and feedback.
