KEY NEWS FOR EXPLORER FAMILIES

This week was another good one – homerooms and special areas classrooms were filled with focused discussions, idea sharing, engagement, and overall joyful learning. Recess and playground time was also a highlight this week!

Just last night we received information from the Fulton County SEAT Count process confirming that our campus is impacted. While the details will not be finalized until some time next week, it looks like two of our grade levels and our special education classrooms will be impacted. These next steps happen in waves as the district sorts out overall staff adjustments, and we will share specifics once we have those details. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Changes are coming, and Northwood will navigate them efficiently and with care with the minimum amount of disruption possible. Even with the upcoming changes, we are keeping our Curriculum Nights as scheduled next week.

Student Device info: During Curriculum Nights we plan to have a table near the main entrance with information regarding student device care and district optional insurance. Please visit the FCS Technology site to access the district’s Student and Parent Device Handbook. Students that have a need for a device repair are to turn in their laptop to the Media Center and our tech reviews the issues. Some devices can be repaired onsite but others go out for repair. We are lucky to have onsite tech support, but device repairs pricing and inquiries are managed through the district Service Desk at 470-254-4357 as needed. If you are interested in adding device protection these are the steps that have been provided to us:

If you have more than one student, you must pay a premium for each student to be covered.

How to Purchase the Device Protection Plan:

Log into Infinite Campus Parent Portal.

Navigate to the Fees Section:

  • Once logged in, go to the "Fees" section located on the main menu.

  • Or click the Fees under Quick Info.

Add Items to Cart:

  • In the Fees section, you will find the option to add the Device Protection Premium to your cart.

Complete Payment:

  • Follow the prompts to complete your payment. You can choose from various payment methods available.

Confirmation:

  • Enter the email address for Receipt and click submit payment. Please keep this email for your records.

Enjoy your weekend outside in the fresh air and inside with good books.

With gratitude,

Heather Q. Rucker, principal

SECOND GRADE EXPLORERS

Second grade is off to a great start! We have been reviewing expectations, exploring two and three digit numbers with base ten blocks, and having a blast learning about the Georgia Regions!

THIRD GRADE EXPLORERS

Third grade students have had so much fun learning about early American Indian cultures and their development in North America. Last week we learned about the Arctic region. The Inuit (meaning "the people") who lived in this region invented snow goggles to protect their eyes from the frozen tundra blizzards! The third grade students enjoyed creating their own snow goggles! 🙂

GET INVOLVED: NORTHWOOD CLUB APPLICATIONS

Northwood is excited to offer Explorers several morning and afternoon clubs for their enrichment and enjoyment.

Participants are expected to adhere to Northwood PBIS behavior expectations both during the school day and during club activities. We want your child's participation in school clubs to be a great experience of learning and interaction with other students. Our three Northwood expectations “Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Engaged” will continue to be taught during all club activities. Club advisors will use Northwood’s Reflect and Refocus forms to teach positive behavior and “stop and think” strategies. Club participation is dependent on students following these PBIS procedures.

Below is the Northwood Club Schedule and applications with more details about deadlines and start dates.

ICE CREAM & BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Your child will be recognized at school on his/her birthday, with an announcement on Explorervision and a special birthday pencil. Please do not send cake, cupcakes, balloons, party favors, or party invitations to school as these will not be distributed. If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday at school you may purchase ice cream from our cafeteria for your child’s class.

  • Please email your Explorer’s teacher to find out how many students are in their class.
  • Email our Cafeteria Manger Bethany Lopez at Lopezb3@fultonschools.org to place your order at least TWO FULL WEEKS IN ADVANCE of your Explorer’s birthday.
  • Ice cream is still $1 each for birthdays. The simplest way to handle the cost is to have money on your Explorers account via MySchoolBucks.

NEW CAFETERIA PRINCIPAL ACCOUNT FUND

This year, with the new lunch system, our school community has the capability to create a Cafeteria Principal Account Fund. This account would be used to fulfill any meal costs for students that reach an account balance of zero. We often have families and extended family members that ask if or how they can pay off lunch balances or support our students in this way, now the process of doing so is easy!

Should you be interested in adding to the Cafeteria Principal Account Fund, just send a check or cash to school in an envelope to Ms. Bethany Lopez, Cafeteria Manager and notate that the funds go to the Principal Fund. Please reach out to Ms. Lopez lopezb3@fultonschools.org if you have any questions.

MySchoolBucks

Pay for school meals and fees securely online! With MySchoolBucks, parents can also view cafeteria purchases, access meal balances, register for activities, purchase event tickets, browse school items, and more.
