60 SECONDS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT
This week, Surrarrer Elementary 3rd grade students wrapped up their CKLA unit on Animal Classification with a fantastic interactive event. For the last few weeks, each student selected an animal, conducted research, and developed a presentation to showcase their knowledge and understanding. The students explored how and why animals are classified, diving into scientific concepts while sharpening literacy skills like text features and vocabulary development. Click HERE to see more about this week’s event where students proudly shared presentations with their families!

COOKIES & CANDIDATES NIGHT, HOSTED BY STRONGSVILLE COUNCIL PTA
Join us for an opportunity to meet the candidates on the November ballot for the Strongsville Board of Education at the “Cookies and Candidates Night” hosted by Strongsville Council PTA. The event will be held at the SCS Administrative Offices on Monday, October 20 at 7:00pm.
Why is Council PTA hosting this evening? We believe it’s important for parents, students, and families to be informed about the individuals who will be making decisions that impact our schools. This evening is a chance to hear directly from the Board of Education candidates, learn about their vision, and ensure that every voice - parents and students alike - can be heard.
Planning to attend? Please click HERE to RSVP by Friday, October 17.
WHITNEY 3RD GRADE STUDENTS CREATE THEIR OWN ANIMALS
Ms. Krosky (3rd grade teacher) and Ms. Russ (Intervention Specialist) became “zookeepers for a day,” as Whitney 3rd graders finished their Animal Classification CKLA Unit. The students studied the different classifications of animals, including special characteristics and their different habitats. Using this valuable knowledge, our third graders then created their own animals and made presentations about them to see if zookeepers Krosky and Russ would allow their animal into the Whitney Wildlife Reserve. It’s a safe bet that ALL the animals were invited to be a part of this wildlife family!
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. MAUREEN ALBIETZ - BUS DRIVER, SCS TRANSPORTATION
Mrs. Maureen Albietz is one of the longest-tenured employees in our District. Mrs. Albietz has been working in our Transportation Department as a bus driver for 47 years! She is a graduate of Strongsville High School and also has strong roots in our community - her father was part owner of the James Lumber Company.
“I just love what I do! The students I drive to and from school every day are unique in so many ways. It is an adventure every day. Seeing their smiling faces and also being able to help them through whatever challenges they may have on a given day are what makes my job so special. The Transportation Department staff that I work with - from my fellow drivers to the aides that meet my bus every day - help make my job easier. We are all on the same team! And a special ‘Thank You’ to all of the parents for sharing their greatest gifts with me everyday!”
Thank you Mrs. Albietz for your continued dedication to our District and for the positive impact you have had on the countless students who have been part of your routes over the years! #ModelMustang
SMS STUDENTS GIVE BACK TO COMMUNITY FOR DAY OF SERVICE
Last Saturday, the SMS 8th Grade Football Team and Cheerleaders tackled community service off the field. Our student-athletes gave back to the Strongsville community through projects that made a real impact. They worked together and volunteered for six hours: Raising over $1,000 through a student-run car wash to help purchase a K9 police officer vest; Cleaning up the public areas at the Strongsville Town Square and SMS; Coordinating and collecting much needed food donations for the Strongsville Food Bank. A special thank you to all of the parents who brought snacks and drinks throughout the day, as well as the SMS coaches for their efforts in helping grow this community service mindset in our students.
