Dear D303 Community:

Across our schools, we’re seeing how effective collaboration is making a major difference in the quality of education we’re providing to our students. For our educators, that happens in our Professional Learning Communities–teams of teachers coming together on a regular basis to share effective classroom strategies, problem solve, and provide feedback. For our entire community, that has happened with our new districtwide Cell Phone Procedures–a community-written set of standards that took effect at the start of this school year as a way of enhancing focus in the classroom.

In D303, we are unapologetically a learning organization. Everything we do centers around our care for our students and our dedication to providing them the best possible classroom instruction and experience.

Every day of instruction and learning is important. This year, we’re making it a priority to collaborate with our families and our community about the importance of student attendance and establishing high standards that lay the groundwork for students to find their pathway and to get them ready to pursue their dreams when they graduate from D303.

Over the summer, we revised our D303 Student Handbook, with updated student-attendance procedures and expectations. I encourage all of our families to review it.

We also want our families to collaborate with us on how best to set high attendance expectations for our students and provide the necessary support. We invite D303 parents and caregivers to be a part of our Parent Attendance Committee, which is charged with engaging families in understanding and improving attendance practices across D303 by gathering parent and caregiver perspectives, identifying barriers to attendance, and partnering on solutions that promote student success through consistent school attendance. The Committee will meet four times during the school year for discussion and collaboration. Full details are here. We ask parents to submit their Committee application before the application deadline of 5 p.m. on Sept. 1.

Thank you for being a part of the D303 community and for working together with us in setting high expectations for our students and supporting them in finding their pathway to excellence.
