The Sandy Run Spotlight
November 30, 2025
Principal's Message
Dear Sandy Run Families,
We hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and enjoyed time together. As we reflect on the month of November, we are incredibly proud of how our students and families showed up for one another and for our wider community. From raising funds for The Breathing Room during our annual Turkey Trot, to contributing to our food drive, creating friendship bracelets, participating in parent/teacher conferences, and offering time and resources through our PTO—your support truly embodies the spirit of Sandy Run. We are grateful for all that you and your children do to make our school such a strong, caring community.
As we return from the holiday break, we encourage all of our students to maintain the strong habits they have developed so far this year. With the second marking period underway, we are excited to lift up our PBIS value for December: Growth. This month, we look forward to celebrating students who demonstrate hard work, perseverance, and the meaningful growth that comes from their efforts.
Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead.
Warmly,
Jennifer Nuskey
Principal, Sandy Run Middle School

💡LEARNING HIGHLIGHTS
Turkey Trot
Thank you to all of our families for your incredible support of this year’s Turkey Trot! Our students ran their hearts out last Tuesday in support of The Breathing Room, a local organization that provides care and assistance to families of cancer patients. We are proud to share that our students raised over $1,400, which staff from The Breathing Room gratefully accepted during their visit on Tuesday.
A heartfelt thank-you to our amazing PE department, our dedicated PTO, and all the families who donated their time, energy, and resources to keep this beloved tradition strong. We are grateful for your partnership and for the generosity that continues to define our Sandy Run community.
8th Grade Flash Fiction Presentations
Congratulations to our 8th grade ELA Flash Fiction presenters! Our students put their writing talents on full display last Wednesday, presenting their original pieces in front of the entire 8th grade—a brave and impressive accomplishment. Flash fiction is a unique style of storytelling that challenges writers to create a complete, compelling narrative in an extremely limited number of words—often under 1,000. In flash fiction, every sentence matters. Writers focus on strong imagery, precise language, and capturing a moment, emotion, or twist that leaves a lasting impact on the reader. This form encourages creativity, discipline, and thoughtful word choice, making it a powerful way for students to grow as writers.

🍎 SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
December PBIS Value: Growth
As we move into December, our PBIS focus shifts to the value of Growth—a key part of the middle school journey. Growth isn’t just about academics; it’s about developing resilience, self-awareness, and the confidence to try again when things feel challenging.
Middle school students can demonstrate growth in many ways: by embracing mistakes as learning opportunities, setting small, achievable goals, seeking feedback from teachers, and reflecting on how their actions impact themselves and others. Growth also shows up in their willingness to step outside their comfort zones—whether that’s participating more in class, trying a new activity, or approaching a difficult situation with patience and persistence.
We encourage families to talk with their children about what growth looks like at home and in school. Together, we can help students recognize how far they’ve come and support them as they continue to build the skills that will carry them confidently into the new year.
