Weekly Update from Principal Coln
Challenger Middle School Families,
We had a great first 2 days of ACAP Testing. We believe our students worked hard and tried their very best. Only 2 more days, Tuesday and Wednesday will both be ACAP English. If your students missed any of the ACAP testing they will do make-ups this week.
The Soar Eclipse will take place on Monday, April 8. We have certified glasses for the students and will participate on Monday. We sent home opt-out forms (attached below) last Monday. If you do not want your child to participate please return the form to the front office.
Please keep the following things in mind to ensure the success of your child. Your child succeeds when we ALL are working together for their benefit.
- Ensure your students are at school, on time, and ready to learn daily
- Ask your students what they learned at school
- Encourage students and monitor their progress
- Attend events, volunteer, and join organizations at our school
- Maintain regular communication with our teachers and administrators
We appreciate your support as always, #EagleUp. Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Bo Coln
Principal

Students and Teacher of the Week
How to earn student of the week?
Teachers select each grade level’s student of the week. Students earn student of the week by making it to class on time, being prepared, completing all assignments, being respectful to their peers and adults, having at least a C average, and being kind and helpful to everyone. Our students of the week exhibit SOAR behavior – Show Respect, Own Your Actions, Arrive Ready, and Reach Higher.

- 8 acceptable parent notes will be accepted as official excuses.
- Students with an excused absence have 10 days to make up the work missed.

Counselor's Corner
Hello Eagle Families,
ACAP is here and I know that all of our Challenger Eagles are going to Eagle Up and give it their best. Here are some test taking tips to share with your students, as they get ready for this week.
- Go into the test with confidence. Staying confident makes it easier to remember everything you know. You've got this!
- Get enough sleep the night before the test. Your memory recall will be much better if you've had enough sleep. A scientific study showed that people who got enough sleep before taking a math test did better than those who stayed up all night studying.
- Put away all materials before the test. It’s important for you to clear your mind and relax during this time, so you’ll save your mental energy for the actual test.
- Listen closely to ALL instructions. As the teacher hands out the test, be sure you know what's expected of you.
- Read through the test first. When you have the test in front of you, go through it to see how long it is. This will let you estimate how much time you have for each section.
- Answer the questions in any order. As you take the test, if you don't know an answer try not to get stuck on it. Instead, flag it, skip over the question and come back to it later. You may find it easier to answer a question you’ve skipped after you've answered other questions.
- Relax. If you're so nervous that you blank out, you might need a mini-break. You can wiggle your fingers and toes, take 4 or 5 deep breaths, or picture yourself on a beach or some other calm place.
- Running out of time? It’s OK if you don’t finish every question on the test. Do your best to answer the questions you can, and keep an eye on the clock so you know how much time is left for any remaining questions you still need to answer. You can always guess if you’re stuck on some of the questions and time is running out.
- Finished already? Although most teachers will let you hand a test in early, it's usually a good idea to spend any extra time checking your work. Take a minute to breathe deeply and clear your mind before reviewing your answers.

Message from the Athletic Director
Attention all 7th and 8th Grade Parents:

Thank you!
Thank you, National Defense Industrial Association, Tennessee Valley Chapter (NDIA-TVC) and Space and Missile Defense Working Group (SMDWG) for your $10,000 contribution to Challenger Middle School (CMS). With this generous donation, we will have a Math Interventionist for the 2nd semester of the school year. Ms. Regina Carter, retired CMS math teacher, is joining our team. She will provide intensive math support to a select group of CMS students. We are excited about this partnership and expect to see great math growth from our students.
