Principal's Corner Principal's Corner

Hello, FamiLEE,

As we continue working to strengthen our academic achievement and prepare our students for life beyond high school, we want to encourage everyone to finish the semester strong. Your support plays a big role in helping our students stay focused and successful.

This week, we challenged our students to step up and take ownership of their learning. Please help us by reminding them of a few key expectations:

  • Arrive to school and every class on time

  • Come prepared and ready to engage in learning

  • Make positive choices and demonstrate good character throughout the day

High school students are building habits that will follow them into adulthood. Strong attendance, responsible behavior, and consistent effort all contribute to their success now and in the future. Our goal is to reduce classroom disruptions, increase academic performance, and continue moving toward becoming an 'A' school.

Please encourage your student to stay focused on maintaining good grades, showing leadership and maturity, and giving their best effort each day. Together, we can help them finish this semester with confidence and pride.

Thank you for your continued FamiLEE support.

Please look at the calendar to see the important events this week. Have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Kitrise Torain

LHS Principal

Congratulations to our FamiLEE Spotlight this week, Mr. Adam Thompson! Mr. Adam is one of our afternoon custodians. He was recognized this week as Lee's Support Staff of the Year. Mr. Adam has been part of the FamiLEE for years. He works extremely hard to ensure our school is clean and well-maintained.

Shout-Outs Shout-Outs

  • Shout out to our basketball and bowling teams for their wins this past week! Our senior bowling team members --Josef Powell-Bush, Conlin Major, & Madison "Maddie" Minter-- also celebrated Senior Night Dec. 3rd!

  • Shout-out to our Freshman of the Week, Quayshaun Gideon, who comes to us from Chapman Middle School. He plays on the freshman basketball team here at Lee. In his spare time, he likes to play video games. After high school, he wants to be in the NFL or the NBA. His favorite teacher at Lee is Ms. Echols because she makes science and learning fun, and she is a great teacher!

Magnet Minute Magnet Minute

  • Lee's Performing Arts and Music Conservatories are excited to be competing in this year's state Trumbauer competition this weekend! We have 71 individual events and our one act, A Monster Calls, competing! We're so proud of our students and teachers and the hard work and passion they've all shown in preparation for this weekend!

  • The Creative Writing Magnet has been busy this week! The authors have been diligently working on their personal lit mags and magnet portfolios, and the lit mag team has allocated spreads to every team member, and the afternoon sessions are now dedicated to using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign to create the lit mag! Vivianne Brown, Elizabeth Graham, Ray Kendrick, Calyssa Lewis, and Angel Robinson all completed the challenge of writing over 40,000 words by the end of November. Our budding novelists are on their way to finishing their novels! Also, ten poets competed in the school-wide Poetry Out Loud competition Friday morning. Congratulations to our winners: Tamara King, 1st place; Anna Rhea McCombs, 2nd place; and Janell Benson, 3rd place! These three will advance to regionals at the Alabama Center for the Arts in Decatur on January 30th.

  • Our Music Conservatory Vocal Performance students had the honor of joining the University of Alabama at Huntsville's Fall Concert Nov. 20th, and the Conservatory's Kennedi Anderson--along with N'General--did a wonderful job performing the national anthem during Montview Elementary's ground-breaking ceremony for their new STEM Magnet Program. We're so excited for our Montview FamiLEE and the new opportunities to come!

  • The LHS Magnet Program will soon celebrate 40 years of creativity, collaboration, and community impact, and we want you to celebrate with us! If you're an LHS magnet program alum, please complete this quick interest form to share how the magnet program shaped you.

Announcements Announcements

  • New HCS Wireless Communication Device Policy: We want to inform you about an important update to our school policies in response to a new state law. On May 14, 2025, Governor Kay Ivey signed the FOCUS Act (Freeing Our Classrooms of Unnecessary Screens for Safety) into law. This law, which went into effect July 1, 2025, requires public schools across Alabama to limit student use of wireless communication devices during the instructional day to improve focus, safety, and engagement. In compliance with this law, Huntsville City Schools will implement a district-wide Wireless Communication Device (WCD) Policy beginning Fall 2025. Please click here to review the new HCS Wireless Communication Device policy.

Attendance Attendance

We want your child to be in school with us every day! Attendance is the most important factor in your child's academic success. We can't teach children who aren't at school. We have a goal of 95% this year. Please help us reach this goal by ensuring your child is here every day. If you child has to be out, please send excuses to LHS.attendance@hsv-k12.org.
