Dear God,

We thank You for Sister Tuyen, Sister Thanh and Father Vinh,

for their kindness, guidance, and the love they’ve shared with our school.

They have helped us grow in faith and friendship.

As they move on to new adventures,

bless them with joy, peace, and strength.

May they always know how much we appreciate them

and how deeply they’ll be missed.

Amen.

PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Fr Vinh, Sr Tuyen and Sr Thanh

It is with much sadness that we say farewell Sr Tuyen, Fr Vinh and Sr Thanh from our Parish and school community. Sr Thanh has always been very supportive of the school, and in particular, when we re-introduced our canteen, she was a weekly helper. Fr Vinh has been our parish priest for 10 years and has been instrumental in the building of a vibrant community and in the building of our beautiful church.

Sr Tuyen has also been part of our school and parish community for 10 years, being an awesome Education Assistant, supporting many children and creating a wonderful presence and connection between the school and parish. She will be greatly missed.

They take up their new posting at Mary MacKillop Parish in Ballajura at the end of this month and I wish them many blessings as they will undoubtably make a very positive impact in the Ballajura community.

Superhero Day

Tomorrow, we have our free dress day with a Superhero theme. This theme has been chosen because we are dedicating the day to support Year 2 student Ace Van Eyk-Bui who has been battling cancer for nearly 2 years and is currently in isolation, and he loves Superheroes. The children are asked to come to school dressed as Superheros for a gold coin donation. Also during the day the children will be participating in some activities to support Ace. There will be special orders from the canteen for a Glee drink and/or Moosies ice-cream for $2.50 each. We finish the day with fete style activities on the oval and suggest that children bring between $3 and $5 to participate in the activities. All proceeds will go to assisting Ace and his family during this tough time. Please see the flyer below.

Mother’s Day

I hope all mums had a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday. Congratulations to Cheio and his mum Marie who won the Mother’s Day Stall raffle for a gift voucher to Café Elixir.

Cross Country Carnival

Yesterday our cross-country carnival was run, and some great racing took place. Thank you to Miss Jones for preparing the students and organising the carnival. Thank you also to parents and staff for assisting with the running of the event and to parents for supporting on the day.

Students Insurance

Students Personal Accident Insurance covers all currently enrolled students and provides benefits for a range of medical services, such as dental and physiotherapy costs which have been incurred as the result of an accident. Additional expenses such as medical expenses and emergency transport are also payable under the policy. Cover under the policy applies whilst a currently enrolled student is engaged in school Education Activities.

I write this as information for all families but wish to highlight that it only applies to accidents during school Education Activities, this means that if a child has an accident on the play equipment after school, they are not covered.

After Hours Play

As you know, school staff supervise your children at all times during the school day, including while they use play equipment. The students understand the rules allowing them and others to enjoy doing so safely and respectfully. No school staff are on duty after 3pm to supervise your children, enforce the rules of play, or attend to any need arising.

Therefore, if you choose to remain on school grounds with your child or other children in your care, you understand and accept sole responsibility for supervising them. ‘Supervision’ is keeping a direct line of sight to your child. It means ensuring your child behaves according to our Code of Conduct and other rules in their play and interactions with other children and parents. Students know the rules they follow during school hours and I ask you to enforce consistency while you supervise them after hours.

If you identify any broken play equipment or other risk to students after hours, please alert other parents to remove their children and bring the matter to our attention by contacting the office.

Whilst I understand that many parents use the time after school to come together as community, which is important, if you supervise your children as described, then we can all enjoy the gifts of play and friendship in our school community.

Smart watches

There are a few children, who ride or walk to school and their parents provide them with a phone in case they need to seek assistance. The practice for these children is to hand their phones into the office on arrival and collect their phones at the end of the day. Recently, we have discovered that there are children who are wearing watches with cellular capabilities – meaning they can act like a phone in making calls, sending messages, taking photos and accessing the internet. Watches with these capabilities are to be treated in the same way as mobile phones. If they are not able to be put into “school mode” then they need to be handed into the office on arrival at school and collected at the end of the day.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

On Tuesday 13 May we held a parent and student information evening in the Parish hall. This meeting is an essential part of the lead up to the Sacrament of Confirmation. Thank you very much to parents who attended, your attendance and engagement in the evening really helps the students to understand the significance of this Sacrament. We also thank Stephen Harris from the CEWA catechist team for facilitating the session so reverently, Mrs Dalton, Mr Alleyne and Mrs Phillips for their work in preparing the candidates.

On Tuesday 21 May our Year 6 students and parish catechist students will participate in a retreat day to further their understanding of the Sacrament of Confirmation and the role that the day plays in their faith development. We look forward to Karl Brown from Faith Retreats hosting an engaging, informative and reverent day. We also look forward to meeting our celebrant for Confirmation, the very, very reverent Father Vincent Glynn, vicar general, on Wednesday 4 June. Father Vincent will spend some time talking with the confirmation candidates.
