Weekly Hoots
#SoaringTogether February 26th - March 1st
From the Desk of Dr. Gantt
Education is a partnership between the school, the student, and the family, and your involvement is invaluable in helping your student thrive academically. Research consistently shows that students perform better in school when their families are actively engaged in their education. Your encouragement, support, and involvement make a significant difference in your student's academic journey.
Here are a few ways you can support your student academically:
- Establishing a Routine: Encourage your student to establish a consistent study routine at home. Setting aside dedicated time each day for homework, studying, and reading can help reinforce good study habits and improve academic performance.
- Creating a Positive Learning Environment: Provide a quiet, well-lit space at home where your student can study and complete homework assignments without distractions. A positive learning environment can enhance focus and productivity.
- Monitoring Progress: Stay informed about your student's progress in school by regularly checking their grades, assignments, and communication from teachers. If you notice any challenges or areas where your student may need extra support, don't hesitate to reach out to their teachers or academic advisors for guidance.
- Encouraging Curiosity and Lifelong Learning: Foster a love of learning in your student by encouraging curiosity and exploration beyond the classroom. Visit museums, libraries, and educational events together, and engage in discussions about various topics to inspire intellectual curiosity.
- Open Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with your student's teachers and school administration. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding your student's academic progress or well-being, don't hesitate to reach out. We are here to support you and your student every step of the way.
At WES, we are committed to providing a supportive and nurturing learning environment where every student can reach their full potential. By working together as a team, we can help your student achieve academic success and thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Thank you for your continued partnership and dedication to your student's education. Together, we can make a positive difference in your student's academic journey.

Thank you for your responses:
- In response to a two lane drop off... We are looking at how we can speed up our car rider drop off in the morning. It may be difficult to organize a two lane drop off; however, it would be helpful if students opened their doors in the morning. We want to be able to open as many doors as possible in the morning, but are unable to do so. It is alright if students got themselves out if there's not a staff member nearby. This would help in speeding up the drop off line.
- In response to parent-teacher communication... We encourage families to reach out to teachers to conference how their children are doing in the classroom. Our teachers send out weekly notifications that are to be more general in nature. If you would like to have specific updates on your child, please reach out to your child's teacher to schedule a conference.
- In response to a new student packet... We are working on a school pamphlet for our new families.
Morning Drop Off & Afternoon Pick Up Reminders
- When turning right into the school, please get into the gravel even if there are no cars in line. Deputy Tucker is unable to stop cars going behind because they can not see her and do not have time to slow down.
- For those entering, turning left into the school, please have your turn signal on in advance and before you reach the school entrance. This will allow Deputy Tucker to know where you are going and see how many cars need to turn in and how much space is needed.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Drop Off in the Kindergarten Loop
Here are some friendly reminders:
- Have your students awake, and prepared with backpack and jackets on before arriving to a stop to unload.
- Please say your good-byes before then as well!
- Only use the "big" loop as opposed to the smaller loop, unless your family has been specifically asked to enter that way.
- Upon departure, please take a right turn only. There are places down Gaillard Rd. to take a turn to return to 17A.
- Also, doors are to close at the 7:20 tardy bell, so it is recommended that your vehicle be in the loop by 7:15 to ensure timeliness at the door. Remember, our staff begins unloading cars at 6:50.
Thank you for your efforts!

As a school, we practice Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS). We seek to emphasize student practicing appropriate behaviors, and celebrate them through a number of ways, including students being able to earn SOAR Bucks. With their SOAR Bucks, students can purchase items from our Wise Owls Store.
We have students who earn 100 SOAR Bucks and elect to create a (voluntary) School Spirit Week. Our School Spirit Weeks are completely optional, but we encourage our students and faculty and staff to have a fun time 😀 #SOARingtogether!

Kindness & Compassion
Character Word of the Month
Every month WES students will learn about a character word. This month, the word of the month is Kindness & Compassion.
Kindness & Compassion means being courteous, considerate, and helpful to others. The platinum rule: find out how others would like to be treated, and treat them accordingly. Our Wise Owls will learn what sympathy looks like and sounds like, and understand the importance of showing sympathy and concern for others.
Ask your child who has been kind to them. Ask your child who has been compassionate to them.
