"World Hearing Day is an annual global advocacy event for raising awareness regarding hearing loss and promoting ear and hearing care, and calling for action to address hearing loss and related issues. Each year, this event is celebrated on 3 March, covering a specific theme on which the World Health Organization and its partners carry out activities based on this theme." World Hearing Day (WHD) World Hearing Day (WHD)

"This year, WHD highlights the theme "From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children."

The campaign focused on two imperatives:

  • Preventing avoidable childhood hearing loss
  • Ensuring early identification of and care for children with ear or hearing problems

Communities and classrooms are natural entry points to reach children, parents, and teachers. By integrating hearing care into school health and child health programmes, we can help children hear, learn, and succeed."

The Auditory Brain: A Gateway to Language and Literacy The Auditory Brain: A Gateway to Language and Literacy

Date and Time: Friday, March 6, 2026, 9:00 am - 12:15 pm

Join EITA (Early Intervention and Technical Assistance) for an insightful session exploring how the auditory brain shapes language, literacy, and cognitive development in children who are deaf, hard of hearing or deafblind. This webinar will highlight recent research on the brain’s connection to hearing, hearing loss, auditory neural deprivation, and the role of hearing technologies—providing practical ways to explain these concepts to families pursuing listening and spoken language outcomes for their child with a hearing difference. We’ll bridge research to real-world strategies for advancing spoken language, literacy, and even music skills, while uncovering the critical link between sleep and cognitive growth. Finally, discover cutting-edge 2026 strategies and technologies that professionals and families can use to enhance listening, language, literacy, and cognition in infants and children. Presenter: Carol Flexer, Ph.D., LSLS Cert. AVT, CCC-A Audiologist

Additional Upcoming Trainings: To view a list of all EITA learning events, go to the Highlighted Trainings page on the EITA Portal.

"Everyone’s hearing loss story is different. That’s why we’re excited to partner with Hasbro to create an addition to our Hearing Loss 101 Toolkit, focusing on kids with hearing loss and their families.

This exciting new project is inspired by an announcement from the world of PEPPA PIG: Peppa’s younger brother, George, has moderate hearing loss. Just as George is getting support in this new chapter of his story, our toolkit update will present information to children in ways they can understand."
