LITTLE FREE LIBRARY - ESTABLISHED BY OUR MAYOR ASHTAN CLANTON LITTLE FREE LIBRARY - ESTABLISHED BY OUR MAYOR ASHTAN CLANTON

Hi everyone!

Ashtan Clanton (5th grade) has been working on his mayor project for the year. He has decided that he would like to purchase a Little Free Library for Meadow. He put together a great speech explaining the benefits of literacy and how this library will help promote reading in Meadow. If you haven't heard of a Little Free Library, it is a give and take type system where you can take any book inside as long as you place a book back. Or you can put books in you don't need any more for other people to enjoy. It is a way to teach honesty, responsibility, and integrity for the members of the community and help others enjoy good books. He has committed to taking care of it while he is a Meadow Bronco and with the help of the Elementary and City Hall, we are hoping this will be a successful tool for years to come.

That being said, I am looking for some book donations in GOOD condition of all reading levels to start a library for the book barn. You can bring them to me, or I can come pick them up.

We are also looking for monetary donations to help fund the project. These book barns are not cheap. If you feel called to donate, please let me know. No pressure at all!

He and I cannot wait to share this project with the community.

He is really proud of this idea (as am I).

Maybe you can stop by and visit it one day with your family 🙂

I will keep you updated on the process. I have attached a photo of the cute book barn.

Thank you so much,

Jenna Wesley, M.S. Ed.

Puedes traérmelos o puedo ir a recogerlos.

Muchas gracias,

Jenna Wesley, MS Ed.

Hello 3rd grade families,
It’s finally spring time, and my heart couldn’t be any happier! I hope everyone had an amazing spring break!
This week in reading, we continued with our review over nonfiction texts. Students read and analyzed a nonfiction passage about an amazing hippo named Jessica. Students worked on understanding that a nonfiction text includes real life events, people, and stories. I might be a little biased because I absolutely love hippos, but this text was one of my favorites. As students completed this assignment, they followed the test strategy “Staar Reader.” After reading the text twice, the students completed a graphic organizer to organize their thoughts. They then completed a short constructed response independently to show their understanding of the text and the ability to correctly answer a written response based on 3rd grade reading STAAR.
On Thursday, students completed a practice STAAR. The 3rd grade reading STAAR will be on Tuesday, April 9th.
Due to it almost being STAAR, we are done with phonics; therefore, no more spelling tests!
We have started a new way of doing homework. Each week your child will receive a packet. The first page is broken down into 3 days and consists of revising and editing. This is a huge portion of STAAR. The 3 pages to follow on the packet are short comprehension passages with STAAR based questions that go with it. This will hold your child accountable for reading and practicing STAAR based questions outside of the classroom.
For social studies this week, we started a new unit about being good citizens and the characteristics that make a good citizen.
Reminders:
Please sign and check your students folder daily.
Read for at least 20 minutes a night with your child.
Please hold your child accountable for doing their daily homework.
We are getting close to STAAR, so please make sure your child is at school everyday.
Thank you for all you do,
Temple Smith

4th and 5th ELAR

We are entering our "STAAR Boot Camp" for the next 3 weeks of school. We will be reviewing everything we've learned, clearing up any misconceptions, and earning lots of prizes.

Reminders...

  1. ELAR STAAR is on April 9th. Please have your child bring a jacket because the class can get chilly.

  2. Please start implementing good bedtime habits leading up to the STAAR. Getting a good night's rest is imperative to their cognitive function and overall well-being. We have lots of sleepy students at school lately.

  3. Students must be reading at minimum 20 minutes each night. We have BIG AR Goals to meet this next 9 weeks.

  4. Attendance is crucial for your child's success. Please message me and call the office if your child will be out.

  5. Message me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you!

Jenna Wesley, M.S. Ed.

Meadow ISD

¡Gracias!

4th & 5th Math

-In 4th & 5thgrade Math, we are wrapping up our Geometry Unit. Next week, we will begin our STAAR Review. I need students to be in class every day because with some of the units we will not stay long reviewing them. We will stay longer reviewing math concepts we struggled with during the year.

-All 4th and 5th Graders need to practice multiplication math facts every night for 5 minutes. Please, please, please…the numbers and the work is getting more challenging and not knowing multiplication math facts make it seem impossible. Some students shut down or do not turn in assignments. Students who are not passing their multiplication facts quiz on Monday have to complete a multiplication fact table, three nights a week. If students do not know their multiplication math facts, they need to be able create a multiplication fact table during the STAAR test.

Thank you for your support,

Stacy Gamez

Stacy Gamez.
