FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

KMS Families,

A talking point at school over the last couple of weeks has been taking ownership of your actions. When I redirect students, the responses I get sound something like this:

“That’s not mine…she did it first…he was running too.”

Here’s what I’m asking them to say instead: If they are caught running in the halls, say “my bad.” If there’s trash left on the lunch table, say “I can help with that.” If you step on the shoe of the person in front of you, say “oops, I’m sorry.”

We’re trying to remind students that we all make mistakes. But, if you don’t acknowledge you made a mistake, you can’t learn from it. When students take ownership of their actions, instead of deflecting or blaming others, they set themselves up to learn and grow each day.

We’re always working to help students reach their full potential!

Have a great weekend!

Dear Worthington Families,

As the holiday season approaches, we warmly invite you to join Worthington Connects, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families in need within the Worthington community. Our mission is to provide essential resources, spreading joy and hope to those facing challenges.

There are several meaningful ways you can give back this holiday season:

  • Sponsor a Family: Provide gifts and essential items directly to a family in need.

  • Donate a Laundry Basket of Essentials: Items like cleaning supplies, toiletries, and non-perishable food are always appreciated.

  • Contribute to a Family Stocking: Gift cards, small gifts, and other stocking stuffers are wonderful ways to brighten someone’s holiday.

Veteran's Day Guest Speakers needed

KMS is looking for guest speakers to talk to our students on Veterans Day (Wednesday, November 11th). If you know a veteran who may be willing to speak to classes of students for a period or two, please reach out to Mr. Smith at ssmith@wscloud.org as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for helping our students learn more about our nation’s military service members!

PTA Reflections Arts Program: "What My Culture Means to Me"

Dear Kilbourne Families,

KMS is taking part in PTA Reflections this year, and we'd love to see as many students as possible get involved. Reflections is a national arts program run by PTA. Student work is judged here at school first, and selected pieces move on to Ohio PTA and can go all the way to National PTA.

This year's theme is "What My Culture Means to Me." Culture can mean a lot of things and this year students get to decide what it means to them.

Students can enter in any of these six categories:

  • Dance Choreography
  • Film Production
  • Literature
  • Music Composition
  • Photography
  • Visual Arts

A few things to know:

  • Submissions are due by November 28th
  • Students can enter more than one category.
  • Every piece has to be the student's own original work, made this year for this theme.
  • Each entry needs a title, a short artist statement (10 to 100 words) about how the piece connects to the theme, and an entry form signed by both the student and a parent or guardian.
  • ALL entries will be digital this year - the district PTA is using a google form that will be filled out and used to enter all submissions.

Submissions

  • Every entry will need to be uploaded using this Google Form: https://forms.gle/jr1RcWuvGBJJY8A5A
  • Please review the Category Guidelines and the Student Entry Guidelines to help you with your submission

Timeline:

  • Now through November 28th: Students create and submit their work:
  • November 28th: Entries due in the entry form and the art in the proper format.
  • December 5th: Selected KMS entries advance to District PTA judging
  • January 14 2027: Selected District entries advance to Ohio PTA judging
  • May 1, 2027: National PTA announces its winners (national award winners can earn scholarships)

Category rules and tips are posted here: https://www.ohiopta.org/reflections/families/

Some of the best entries we see come from kids who don't think of themselves as artists, reflections is a way for all students to express themself, so we encourage anyone who has an idea to submit something!
