Resources from Our Counselors
Resources from Our Counselors
Dear Parents,
As we step into November, we are filled with gratitude for the progress we have made as a school community. With the first part of the school year behind us, this is a wonderful time to reflect on how far our students have come and to look ahead to the opportunities that remain.
Focus on Well-Being and Balance
November can be a busy month for students with upcoming assessments and projects. We encourage you to check in with your child about their academic goals and overall well-being. Help them find a balance between schoolwork and self-care as we approach the end of the semester. Encouraging good study habits and regular breaks can go a long way in maintaining both focus and health.
Social-Emotional Learning Program at GIVE West
SEL Mission: To provide all stakeholders with learning environments that are inclusive, equitable, and safe, encompassing the five core social and emotional competencies.
SEL Vision: GIVE West strives to promote social and emotional learning that will provide students and adults with life skills that will allow them to lead healthy, productive lives.
What is SEL?
The mindsets, skills, attitudes, and feelings that help students to succeed in school and life. It includes:
● Self-Awareness
● Self-Management
● Social Awareness
● Relationship Skills
● Responsible Decision-Making
Why is SEL important?
Supporting social-emotional development leads to higher academic achievement and a positive sense
of well-being. Social and emotional well-being is a strong predictor of success in life.
This is what you should know:
All students and adults thrive in a safe and supportive school climate. SEL can empower young people and adults to co-create thriving school communities.
Ways to Continue the Conversation at Home about SEL:
Use these questions to start a conversation with your student about this topic:
· What was one good part of your day?
· What was one difficult part of your day?
· What was one thing you learned today?
· How can I help to support you as you build SEL skills?
Social Media Safety
While families are aware that social media use can leave students' emotions and personal information vulnerable, it may seem daunting to know how to help keep children safe. Click here for tips on communicating your concerns, which apps are popular, how to deal with harassment and cyberbullying, and ways to set rules and limits that will protect your child's health and privacy.

Parent-Teacher Collaboration
We greatly appreciate your continued partnership in supporting your child's education. If you have not already, please be sure to take the opportunity to meet with teachers during upcoming conferences (or reach out via email) to stay updated on your child's progress. Your involvement in these conversations helps ensure that your child’s needs are being met and sets the stage for continued success. Your grade-level counselor is committed to students’ well-being and academic success. We are here to support students and their families during this journey.
