Note from Dr. Pick
As we enter the final stretch of the school year, now is the perfect time for students to stay focused and finish strong. Consistent attendance each day remains one of the most important factors in student success, as every class period counts. Families can support students by:
- Maintaining routines at home
- Checking grades and assignments regularly
- Encouraging strong effort
- Helping students get plenty of rest each night.

Bobcat Athletic Update
Boys & Girls Track & Field
Bobcats Shine at the City Championships!
Our Bobcat Track & Field athletes competed with heart, determination, and true Bobcat pride at the OPS City Championships! While we did not bring home the overall boys or girls team titles, several of our athletes earned individual city championships, and many more finished in the Top 6 in their events.
Overall, the Boys team finished in 6th place, while the Girls team earned an impressive City Runner-Up finish, bringing home 2nd place honors. We are incredibly proud of the growth, effort, and resilience our student-athletes showed throughout the entire season. They represented Buffett with pride and finished the season in a way they should all be proud of.
To our 8th-grade student-athletes, we wish you the very best as you head off to high school. Continue to challenge yourselves, stay involved, and keep competing. To our returning 7th graders, enjoy some well-deserved rest, then get ready to put in the work this summer — mentally and physically — because championships are waiting to be chased next year.
Boys Soccer
Bobcats Continue Battling Through the Playoffs!
The Boys Soccer team has battled hard throughout the playoffs and continued to show resilience all season long. The Bobcats opened postseason play with a tough road loss at Bluestem on May 7, but responded the way great teams do — by bouncing back with a gritty home victory over Hale on Tuesday, May 12. The team will now close out the season with an opportunity to earn 5th place in a road matchup against Davis.
While we fell short of reaching the city championship game, this team gave us plenty to be proud of. With a strong mix of 7th- and 8th-graders, the players developed incredible chemistry and played together like a team that had been together for years. They showed toughness, teamwork, and heart every time they stepped on the field.
To our 8th graders, thank you for your leadership and dedication. We wish you success as you move on to high school. To our 7th graders, your time is coming. Get ready to lead the charge next season as we continue pursuing the first Boys Soccer City Championship in Buffett history.
Girls Soccer
Bobcats Leave It All on the Field!
The Girls Varsity Soccer team put together an outstanding season and entered the playoffs determined to make a statement. The Bobcats opened postseason play with a road victory over Bryan in the quarterfinals, earning another road matchup against the #1-seeded Lewis & Clark Trailblazers — the only team to defeat them during the regular season.
Our girls competed hard from start to finish, but despite creating opportunities, the ball simply would not find the back of the net, resulting in a hard-fought 1–0 loss. Although the championship game is no longer within reach, the team remains focused and motivated as they prepare for their season finale against Beveridge on Thursday, May 14, at 3:30 PM. We expect our Bobcats to come out focused, determined, and ready to finish the season with a win.
We are extremely proud of the way this team competed together all season long and the determination they showed every step of the way. To our 8th-grade student-athletes, good luck as you move on to high school athletics and activities. To our returning 7th graders, remember how close you were this season and use that feeling as motivation as you prepare for next year’s championship chase.

B-Katz Performance
Choir Performance
A wonderful performance from Buffett Choir students. Thank you to the friends and family who came out to support the singers!
🎶 Bobcat Spotlight 🎶
Pictured below is 7th grader Evelyn M. after performing her oboe solo at the inaugural 7th/8th Grade OPS Solo & Chamber Music Festival. Evelyn took the stage in front of both an audience and a judge on Saturday, May 2 at Bluestem Middle School, showcasing her talent, confidence, and hard work.
We are incredibly proud of the way she represented Buffett. Great job, Evelyn!
🎶 Bobcat Fine Arts Shine! 🎶
Our Bobcat community has so much to be proud of after the incredible performances by our Band, Strings, and Choir programs! Under the leadership of Teacher Bock, Mr. Brown, and Mrs. Morris, our students took the stage and truly represented Buffett with excellence.
From the very first note to the final bow, our students demonstrated not only their musical talents, but also their dedication, discipline, and growth throughout the year. The Band delivered powerful and energetic performances, the Strings showcased precision and elegance, and the Choir filled the room with harmony and heart. Each performance reflected countless hours of practice and commitment.
What stood out even more was the confidence and professionalism our students displayed on stage. They supported one another, performed with pride, and showed exactly what it means to represent the Bobcat Way.
A huge thank you to Teacher Bock, Mr. Brown, and Mrs. Morris for their leadership, passion, and commitment to our students. Their work behind the scenes continues to create opportunities for our students to shine.
And to our student performers—we see you, we celebrate you, and we are proud of you!
Writing Club
Goodbye to our 8th Grade members of Writing Club! We have loved our time with you over the last four years. Thank you for sharing your hearts, humor, and creativity through writing.
Keep Omaha Beautiful Park Clean Up
Buffett NJHS 8th graders worked with Keep Omaha Beautiful to clean up trash in Levi Carter park by the airport. Of the 256 public parks in Omaha, Levi Carter park experiences the most illegal dumping. This is why NJHS students from all OPS middle school spend a day of service there. Buffett students collected 680 pounds of trash in a couple of hours. A special shoutout and goodbye to our NJHS officers: Sophie Q F., Zelda F., Emma G., and Maggie J! Great work, NJHS!
Extreme Math Day - Fermi Math and Honors Geometry Students
New Eagle Scout - Congratulations!
Emily Koch passed her Eagle Board of Review In February and is now a new Eagle Scout! They said she was well spoken and honest and didn’t just tell them what they wanted to hear. She just turned 14 in January and it is very rare to accomplish such a feat that young. Her project was building bee hotels for Schramm and Mahoney State Recreational Areas and providing education for the Community with 527 hrs for her project and a lot of leadership! Congratulations, Emily!
