EASTER at STOC

During Holy Week at St. Teresa of Calcutta, students reflect on the profound sacrifice Jesus made for us and remember that He came to show us the path to eternal life.

Let us keep in mind that Jesus led by example, giving His life for us. He is our role model, and we strive to live our lives in accordance with the lessons He taught us.

Palm Sunday (or Passion Sunday) marks the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem. Holy Thursday commemorates the institution of Communion and the betrayal by Judas. Good Friday solemnly observes the arrest, trial, crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus Christ.

Holy Saturday, the Sabbath on which Jesus rested in the grave.

Principal's Message

Happy Easter to everyone!

As we celebrate this sacred season, we are reminded of renewal, hope, and the promise of new beginnings. May we continue to walk in the light of the Lord—our guide, our strength, and our salvation. Let us move forward with courage, compassion, and a commitment to living out our Catholic faith each day.

As Earth Week approaches, we are called once again to reflect on the incredible gift of creation. Our planet—our shared home—deserves our care, respect, and stewardship. As a school community, we remain dedicated to nurturing environmental awareness, building students’ skills, and creating a greener, healthier learning environment.

A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Casciaro, Ms. Corapi, and our Eco‑Team for their continued leadership and passion in promoting environmental responsibility throughout our school.

On April 22, we celebrate Administrative Professionals’ Day. We extend our sincere appreciation to Mrs. Gordon for her dedication, hard work, and the many ways she supports our students and our entire school community.

Wishing you and your family a blessed, peaceful, and joy-filled Easter weekend.

God Bless,
G. Maddison

Catholic Education Week - May 3-8, 2026 Catholic Education Week - May 3-8, 2026

Catholic Education Week 2026 is centred on the theme “Catholic Education: Pilgrims of Hope – On the Path to Holiness.” Inspired by the Jubilee Year, this theme invites our school community to renew its commitment to prayer, service, and evangelization as we journey together in faith.

As we remember Pope Francis and look forward with hope under the leadership of Pope Leo XIV, and in light of the canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis, this year’s focus highlights the call for young people and adults alike to live as pilgrims of hope, guided by the Holy Spirit toward holiness.

Each day of the week reflects a sub‑theme:

  • Monday, May 4: Peace be with you - STOC Students at Skills Competition
  • Tuesday, May 5: God loves you - Family Engagement Night with Coach Miguel & Gr. 7/8s *all students and families are invited to attend!
  • Wednesday, May 6 : Christ saves you - Virtue of Love Assembly
  • Thursday, May 7: The Holy Spirit lives in you - Welcome to Kindergarten Evening
  • Friday, May 8: Together on the journey - Intermediate Science Fair

Using resources provided by OCSTA, along with our own plans, students and staff will participate in activities that celebrate how we live this call together. We look forward to welcoming families and community members to our Catholic Education Week celebrations!

WWJD - Gotcha Tickets @ STOC

Students earn WWJD tickets when they demonstrate the Catholic Graduate Expectations. Tickets are entered into a weekly draw on Virtual Mondays. We celebrate what the student did and how they followed Jesus. Teachers had out tickets selectively when students demonstrate these positive behaviours:

1. A Caring Family Member

I show love and I use kind words

---

2. A Faithful Person

I show my faith every day.

---

3. A Respectful Friend

I treat others the way I want to be treated.

---

4. A Responsible Citizen

I take care of my classroom and school.

---

5. A Lifelong Learner

I try my best and do not give up.

---

6. A Peace Maker

I help solve problems calmly.

---

7. A Person with Integrity

I make good choices, even when no one is watching.

STOC Kiss and Ride

Our main goal is to keep morning drop‑off and afternoon pick-up safe and running smoothly so that all students can get to school safely and on time. Supervision begins at 8:40 and the morning bell rings at 8:55 a.m. Students entering the building after 8:55 a.m. are considered late arrivals

MORNING DROP OFF PROCEDURES
  • Drive into the Kiss and Ride lane.
  • Pull up beside the sidewalk. Children should only exit from the passenger side onto the sidewalk for safety.
  • After your child gets out, pull away safely.
  • You may park in the lot or on the street as per posted traffic signs. If you prefer to walk your child to the school yard or the Kindergarten gated area. Please do NOT leave your car unattended in the Kiss & Ride lane.

  • On rainy days, students may enter through their regular entry doors or the front doors of the school.
AFTER SCHOOL STUDENT PICK UP
  • After school, a line of cars in the Kiss and Ride lane is normal since many parents arrive at the same time.

  • Please do not leave your vehicle unattended in the Kiss and Ride lanes.
  • Students should enter vehicles from the passenger side for safety.
  • Once your child is in the car, pull out slowly and safely into the drive‑through lane.

School Organization for September 2026

In May of each year, teachers and the administrator work together to determine class placements. This is a complex process, and is done in consultation with this years’ teachers, support staff and administration.

In each class we strive for a balance of learning styles, a balance of gender, a balance of learning needs, and a cross section of abilities.

If you as a parent wish to provide input into the process, please take into consideration the following guidelines:

· Input must be in written form to Mrs. Maddison no later than May 8, 2026

· Frame your request in terms of educational contexts e.g. your child’s learning needs/style; information not already known to the school; tips on what has worked best for your child in the past

· Please be advised that letters which cite the names of individual teachers, or names of children you wish your child to be placed with, will not be considered.

· There is no guarantee that requests will be fulfilled, but all will be considered.

Celebrating Our Skills Team’s Outstanding Achievement!

We are incredibly proud to recognize the amazing accomplishments of our Skills Team at the Skills Competition held on March 25. Student teachers Ms. Santino, Ms. Ture, and Ms. Tavares, along with coaches Mrs. Pereira, Mrs. Guzik, Mrs. Chan, and Mr. Salinas, would like to extend their heartfelt congratulations to all participating students.

Our students competed against over 500 participants and represented St. Teresa of Calcutta (STOC) with exceptional behaviour, strong teamwork, and positive enthusiasm throughout the event. Their dedication and sportsmanship truly stood out—so much so that staff from other schools took the time to comment on how impressive our STOC students were.

Well done to our Skills Team for being such outstanding ambassadors of our school. We are so proud of you!

Fire Drills/Lock Down Procedures

During the school year we will be rehearsing and will continue to rehearse with students a number of emergency response situations including lock down and fire drills.

All schools are required by Board policy to practice these procedures throughout the year. We have these ‘practice drills’ for precautionary purposes only so that in the event of an actual emergency, students will be prepared to respond in a safe and responsible manner.

We will also be practicing a Lock Down Drill. During this drill, the outer doors will be locked and the office will be unavailable during the time of the drill. No one will be allowed to enter or exit during the drill while the emergency protocol is being followed. The day will continue as normal following the drill. Thank you for your patience.

Sign In/Out Book

Normally before leaving school early during the day, children must be signed out from the school office by a parent/guardian. If your child needs to leave school during the school day, you must notify the classroom teacher or the office in writing/via email/by phone. Once you arrive, please ring the doorbell and we will arrange to have your child brought to you at the front door.

Medication

On occasion, the school is asked to store and/or give medication to students. Medication of any kind cannot be stored on school property without the proper medical forms on file.

1. A completed form must accompany each request for medication to be stored by the school.

2. School personnel will not assume responsibility for the administration of any medication.

3. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to monitor the quantity of medication stored by the school.

4. Please let the office know if you require Storage of Medication Forms so they can be forwarded to you.

Concussion Protocol

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board has developed a Concussion Policy and Guidelines for students who have been diagnosed with a concussion by either a medical doctor or nurse practitioner. School staff cannot diagnose a concussion. Anytime a student reports to the office with a head injury, the parent/guardian will be contacted and the incident will be entered into the school’s “Documentation of Head Injuries” log. This is precautionary only, and we ask that you check your child when he/she gets home for any signs of a concussion or illness. A brochure containing information about Concussions is provided upon pick up of the student or when they go home for the day. This is a precautionary measure and for information purposes.
