Mustang Update
We are off and running and I would like to welcome everyone back for another exciting year at Valley Heights! We had our first day of classes on August 19th and I can honestly say that this was the smoothest start to a school year I have experienced. Our students arrived, schedules were available and our staff and students got right to work! Student Council put together a pep rally to kick start our day and we appreciate their hard work in getting our year started on a positive note! I met with the Class of 2027 to outline some procedures for their final year of high school and then added the rest of the student body to go over some new policies and practices we now have in place. But, like I said, the day went by without any hiccups!
Our students and staff have been very busy during the summer with camps and conditioning but it doesn’t stop there. Our FFA Chapter members participated in the State FFA Conference where several of our members were recognized for their achievements. Dustin Denton (Class of 2025) gave his retirement address as the FFA State Vice-President and Klara McIntyre was selected as the Northeast District Sentinel. Our cheer and dance teams attended camps and both groups brought home several trophies for their efforts and talent. Coach Susan Steinfort was a presenter at this year’s coach’s clinic and our 2025 squad was recently awarded the Team Academic Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The group also earned the distinction of the 2026 AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll which recognizes the top 20% of GPA’s at the national level! Outstanding! M. Broxterman spent a considerable amount of time In Europe travelling with a group of educators to learn more about the WWII Concentration Camps. Mr. Broxterman brought back with him a better understanding of this time period and some valuable materials he can now share with our students!
One group that needs a special recognition is our maintenance and custodial crew for the job they did over the summer. It takes a lot of hard work and energy to deep clean our facilities, stay on top of major projects and tend to our grass and grounds surrounding our buildings. We would like to thank Ryan Bishop, Clayton Reed, Tommy Tryon, Jamie LeSage, Monica Sump, Payton Woodyard, and Jaqi Woodyard for all that they do!
Fall sports will have their first full week of practice in by the time you read this article. Our overall numbers of participants are up this year which is always a good thing. We want to wish our coaches and athletes the very best as we begin our fall schedule.
As many of you are aware we are using a program called Rooms to communicate with our students and parents for both classroom and program information. This program is with the same company that brings you the school updates via Facebook and texts. The other option is to use the school e-mail! Calls and texts are no longer an option for our staff. As is the case with all new programs we are working out the issues we are currently having and we are slowly resolving the problems!
Let’s all work together to make this year at Valley Heights – Legendary!!
Let’s go Mustangs!!
