Five Good Things in Spring
*tap tap* Is this thing on?! We're baaaaaaaaaaack, and much like Flavor Flav at the Olympics, we are HYPED to be here. We hope you enjoyed your #bratsummer, but to be honest we missed you all and we are so glad to be back. We might have taken a quick summer break, but we all know the good things in Spring did not take a break. They just kept on coming. The first day of the 2024-25 school year was jam packed with activity and excitement at every campus across the district, and we're going to do our best to catch you up on all of it. But first: watch this video to get a quick recap of the first day back.
Listen, we know the cliche first-day-of-school gift for your teachers is an apple, but let's be honest. What do they really need? Caffeine. And the folks over at Marshall Elementary heard that call, and they answered in probably the best way possible: FREE COFFEE. Principal Eason partnered up with Fellowship Mobile Coffee Shop to really get things going with the Marlins teachers, and judging by the looks on their faces from this Facebook post, we think the teachers and other staff members were more than grateful. Because a well-caffeinated teacher is a GREAT teacher.
The first day of school can be bittersweet. (We're not crying! You're crying!) Because all good things must come to an end, and for our seniors this year marked their LAST first day of school. We know: they grow up so fast! At Spring High School, the Starlettes dance team celebrated their seniors on Instagram with some #throwback photos from pre-K to today. Just like those first days of pre-K seem like yesterday, we know graduation day is going to sneak up on us real fast.
And from our oldest students all the way down to our very youngest students, we are SO excited to launch our PreK-3 program at three elementary schools this year. That's right, three-year-olds will be walking into our schools for the first time this year, at Link, McNabb, and Winship elementary schools. That's because our traditional pre-Kindergarten programs at Spring ISD have proven so successful that we are beginning a pilot program for a Pre-K class that’s dedicated to 3-year-olds. Welcome to the Spring ISD family, y'all!
There's a group of 31 Spring ISD students that started middle school yesterday — stepping foot into middle school for the very first time — who already have high school credits. Mindblowing, right? Well, that's because those students took part in our innovative 80/20 Two- Way Dual Language (TWDL) program. Launched in 2018, it gives students a chance to be part of a classroom with a split of students, with half native English speakers and half native Spanish speakers, and features instruction in both English and Spanish. This first cohort of students tested earlier this year and earned high school Spanish credits through the program. To hear from the students themselves on why this unique program works, head on over to our Spring ISD Instagram.
