Guidance

This week in Guidance, students were learning about how to deal with stress and some classes were working on College and Career Readiness. In grades 2-5, we had a chance to do some career interest surveys and assessments, and the kids were able to do some Career exploring on their chromebooks. They had a lot of fun with that. Friday, January 20th, marked a momentous day for Prestwick Elementary. We had 22 presenters come for our Career Day. Please know that we appreciate each and every one of you parents who volunteered. The Great Kindness Challenge is a fun week for us here at Prestwick, and it’ll be January 23-27th. The students will be carrying out acts of kindness on the kindness challenge, and doing fun activities at lunch on Monday. In Guidance for the week, we will be learning and talking all about Kindness. Thanks for allowing us to invest in your childrens’ lives!

Your Proud Prestwick Counselor,

P.E.

So it is almost time again for our big fundraiser with the American Heart Association. We have a large opportunity to make a difference in many kids' lives. Last year we did so amazing and raised $12,960 which is the most this school has ever done. I am looking forward to wearing a dinosaur costume for a day, crazy socks for a day, and getting slimed by the students on the 16th of Feb. We will kick things off on Jan. 30 2023 and finish on Feb. 16, 2023.

We are starting a basketball unit with a focus on the skills of dribbling with your hands, passing, and basketball shooting. We will finish this unit up next week and get things ready for jump rope!!

Library

This week in the library we have been writing questions for our guest author, Nancy Churnin. We have also been doing book talks for some new titles! K-2 read “Seaside Stroll” and participated in a word work activity to go along with it. Please continue to remind your students to return their books on time, thank you so much!

In class Third through Fifth graders will write and Illustrate an original comic book and will begin to create digital versions of their drawn comics.

MakerSpace

This past week students had a great time exploring two of our robots: Ozobots and Sphero Spark. Both robots can be programmed with iPads but the Ozobot can also be controlled with thick lines drawn by red, green, blue, and black markers. We will continue to use these devices in both Makerspace and Library throughout the rest of the year- building on what we have already learned and taking our learning to new heights! Next week will be a Learning.com week. Students will continue to strengthen their typing skills and will have the opportunity to complete curriculum enhancing activities when they are done.
