COLT CORNER
Colleyville Middle School
February 3rd-7th
Principal Notes
CMS Families,
It has been a busy but fun January at CMS! Thank you to all the families that donated lunch for the staff on Thursday. We are so grateful for your support!
Please remind your child on the importance of wearing their school issued IDs every day while on campus. Additionally, please review the updated dress code guidelines below and help ensure your child meets expectations. We noticed a slight decline in compliance over the past few days.
DRESS CODE UPDATE!!!
GCISD Families,
As we continue to work together to create an environment where students can thrive academically and socially, we recognize the challenges of balancing modern-day fashion trends with our district dress code standards.
In response to your feedback and after carefully reviewing dress code policies across neighboring districts, we are making an update to our guidelines to better align with current practices while ensuring that they are still appropriate for a school setting.
We have revised the item regarding the length of shorts to the following guideline: Shorts, including athletic shorts, must extend past the student's knuckles naturally and must remain visible when standing.
This has been updated in our online dress code document and in the Student Handbook (English) | (Spanish).
Our goal is that this adjustment is both clear and practical, and our administrators are committed to upholding these expectations. Thank you for your partnership and support as we continue to work together in the best interest of our students.
Librarian's Corner
Thank you to the families who have already donated to our book drive. So far families have donated 13 books and $200 towards the drive which is a great start! Please consider making a donation if you are able. The drive runs through February.
Love Our School Library
We are holding a digital book drive to purchase new books for the CMS library.
The campus budget for library books will only allow us to buy 25 books this year. A lot of that will have to be used to replace books that are lost or damaged leaving very little to purchase new selections.
In order to supplement the budget we are running a digital book drive where families can purchase books for the library. The books on this list are books that the library does not have in our collection. Many are new books from popular series and other new publications. They have all been reviewed and approved to be added to GCISD libraries.
We are requesting families use this site to donate books because this is a library book vendor and these books are intended for library use. They have more durable binding that holds up to repeated use, and they are already processed for our library with protective covers and stickers so when they arrive they can go straight on the shelves.

AVID INFO
Focus: Time Management/Organization
Strategy: Planner/Agenda
Why: Life Skill of Task Management
Please ask your child to show you their planner for the day or week!
We are striving to teach ALL students at CMS not only to write in their planner, but to “mark it up”.
Students are being asked to make a system of strike throughs, checks, or some type of symbol to show that an assignment has been submitted. Then a circle/highlight for work that needs to be completed from the day.
Consider talking about how you keep up with your day to day tasks!
The GHS and CHHS dance teams are hosting a combined free workshop for current middle school students on Monday Feb 17 (which is a holiday for students) from 9:00-12:00.
They will be working on skills that will help with auditions for middle school and HS teams. This is open to all current GCISD middle school students may be interested in auditioning for a middle school or HS dance team next year.
No registration necessary.
Counselor's Corner
Course Selection for 6th and 7th Grade Colts
Current 6th & 7th Grade Middle School Parents/Guardians,
We are entering our course selection season for middle school students for the upcoming 2025-26 school year. This process helps us plan for course placement and elective choices.
Counselors will be visiting with students to discuss course elective options and review the process for entering course requests into Skyward the week of Jan. 27, 2025.
Core academic classes will be pre-populated for students based on the current level of course they are in this year. Students will have the opportunity to request their elective courses in Skyward.
Course requests can be entered during the following window: Jan. 27 - Feb. 7, 2025.
Parents are able to support their student in the request process during this window and help make any adjustments to elective courses in Skyward. If you have a need to change the level of a core class please email your student’s counselor.
