Growing Together @ STL
February 20th, 2026
Principal's Message
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Members of Our School Community,
As we enter the beginning of Lent, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the meaning of this important season in the life of our school and Church community.
Lent is a sacred time of preparation, reflection, and renewal. Over the course of forty days, we are invited to pause, turn our hearts more fully toward God, and grow through prayer, fasting, and acts of charity. It is a season that encourages each of us—students and adults alike—to think about how we can become more compassionate, patient, and generous in our daily lives.
Our Lenten journey begins with Shrove Tuesday, a day traditionally set aside for reconciliation and preparation. The word “shrove” comes from the practice of being “shriven,” or receiving forgiveness. It is a reminder to examine our hearts, seek forgiveness where needed, and prepare ourselves spiritually for the season ahead. In many traditions, this day is also marked by simple celebration before the more reflective season of Lent begins.
Ash Wednesday follows and marks the official beginning of Lent. On this day, we received ashes on our foreheads in the sign of the cross. The ashes are a powerful symbol of humility and our need for God’s grace. They remind us that Lent is a time to begin again—to reflect on our choices and renew our commitment to living with faith, kindness, and integrity.
Throughout the coming weeks, our students will participate in prayer services, classroom reflections, and acts of service that help bring the meaning of Lent to life. As a school community, we will focus especially on compassion, gratitude, and caring for those in need.
I encourage each family to take time during this season to reflect together, pray together, and consider simple ways to practice generosity and love in your home and in our wider community.
May this Lenten season be a time of growth, peace, and renewal for us all.
Blessings,
Kristie Phelan
Principal, St Luke

Children's Sacramental Preparation
Sacramental Preparation at OLPH. Our fall sessions are starting up this month and the children will celebrate these sacraments in December. (We also have support for families who wish to have their children Baptized, to "open the door" to these other sacraments.
Our parish is very grateful for the partnership of our Catholic Schools in the faith formation of our young people and their families! A personal email from the school Principal, the faith leader of the school, could make a special impact on families and encourage them to bring their children here to the Church for their sacraments. It could also be extremely helpful if the Grade 2-4 Homeroom Teachers would personally send parents a message about First Communion & Reconciliation for their children, and if Grade 6-8 Teachers could do so for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Thank you for everything you do!
