Dear OLVCS Parents and Friends,

It is hard to believe that next week is the last week of September, and even more unbelievable is that next week is the midway point of the first marking period. It also means that OLV Day & Walk-A-Thon is right around the corner.

The feast of Our Lady of Victory, our namesake, is celebrated on October 7th. As you know we will celebrate this feast day on Friday, October 6th. You may see on church calendars the day marked also as Our Lady of the Rosary. Saint Pius V established the feast of Our Lady of Victory to thank God for the Christian defeat of the Turks at Lepanto - a victory attributed to praying the rosary. This is why OLV Day starts with Mass.

Years ago, OLVCS made the decision to move to one fundraiser a year; the Walk-A-Thon. No more wrapping paper, or candy sales. No more sending money for field trips or purchasing school supplies. It has been such a blessing from my days as a parent to now as principal. The Walk-A-Thon money supports the school in so many ways.

Remember to turn in your family donations by September 29th to count toward individual and class prizes. Donations can be turned in the following week as well.

The Coin Drive starts next week. If you have spare change in the car, seat cushions or laundry, send it in. It is amazing how much the Coin Drive amounts to and adds to the total.

Make it a Great Day!

Samantha Weakland

Here's What Our Parents Have To Say About The Walk-A-Thon!

"The Walk-A-Thon is such an essential event for OLVCS. It has a significant impact on the school! The safety upgrades have been especially important to our family. I can't say enough great things about OLV. We love the service-oriented, value-based education along with the strong academic foundation they're building. MOST importantly, OLV is teaching them what it looks like to be good people who care about others and the world around them."
"I love the Walk-A-Thon day for my children, for all of the ways the funds support our school, especially to make it a safe school and teaching the children the values of service, love, faith, dignity, and integrity as well as working together as a Catholic community!"
"The Walk-A-Thon helps OLVCS to thrive, and in today's culture, having a thriving Catholic School is imperative for instilling Christian values in our children. The Walk-A-Thon is a fun way to raise money to help with specific school needs, such as field trips, technology needs, and athletics."
The Walk-A-Thon is a great way for the students to come together as a whole. The outpouring of support from the community and families helps to benefit our faith based school in so many ways."
"The funds from Walk-A-Thon impact our children in so many ways from technology, classroom supplies, field trips, athletics, co-curricular activities, and safety and security enhancements. Our children also get to witness the impact that a faith community can have as the Walk-A-Thon is supported by their friends, families, fellow parishioners, and local businesses."

Please see the below note from Officer Stec regarding his upcoming parent presentations.

I will be offering two parent presentations this school year, "Current Drug Trends and Social Media Dangers that Threaten Our Kids" and "Armed Intruder/Active Shooter Training". The "Armed Intruder/Active Shooter Training" will be offered on Wednesday, 27 September at 7:00 pm in the school cafeteria. This would be similar to the training that I present to faculty and staff and is useful anywhere, not just in school. It will also provide you with a better understanding of how well our staff and students are educated and trained on this topic. It would be very beneficial for parent volunteers. If you are interested in attending this presentation please email me at stect@olvcs.org. The "Current Drug Trends and Social Media Dangers that Threaten Our Kids" will be offered at a later date.

If you are interested in a substitute teaching position for preschool through 8th grade, send a letter of interest with your resume to Mrs. Samantha Weakland, OLVCS Principal, at weaklands@olvcs.org.

Our Lady of Victory Catholic School is a great place to work for energetic, qualified individuals seeking to enrich the lives of our students. All OLVCS employees and volunteers must complete the requirements of the Diocesan Youth Protections program requirements and submit required clearances.

On Tuesday, the Crusaders traveled to McAlisterville to take on the East Juniata Tigers. It was a tough game, during which our Crusaders could never find their scoring rhythm. The Crusaders lost, 5 – 0. Our OLV team will face off against a local rival, Mount Nittany, today (Thursday) at 4PM. This home game will be played at Orchard Park. All are invited to come out to cheer on our team!

On Wednesday, five members of the Saint Joseph’s golf team competed in a regional tournament to earn the right to compete in the District Championship next week. Elliott Lingle, Haden Lingle, Sam Krasowitz, Luke Duckworth, and Maddie Koshko represented the WolfPack. Elliot Lingle placed 4th (shooting +5) and Haden Lingle placed 12th. The team came in 3rd out of 15 teams. The District Championship is on Tuesday at Scotch Valley Country Club. Top teams will compete at the Regional level the following week.
