Haslett Students Featured on WKAR's All Things Considered
Two Haslett High School students, Nanaty (10th grade) and Aikem (11th grade), joined WKAR's All Things Considered this week to talk about AI, the state's new cell phone law, and student workloads.
Both serve on the Michigan Department of Education Student Advisory Council, which meets monthly with the State Superintendent, and on Haslett's Superintendent Student Advisory Board.
"Nanaty and Aikem represented the district and our student body very well," said Superintendent Malley. "Thank you to Sophia Saliby and WKAR for valuing and amplifying student voice."
Thank you also to Stephanie Livingston, Associate Principal at Haslett High School, for coordinating the interview.

Haslett Voices Episode - First Year of Teaching with Anna Piper
The newest episode of Haslett Voices features Anna Piper, a special education teacher at Haslett Middle School. Superintendent Malley sat down with Anna last spring, at the end of her first year of teaching.
Anna is not new to Haslett. She completed her Michigan State University internship here with Jessica Cooper and Jeff Gower, and she first worked with many of her current students when they were sixth graders. She credits her mentor teacher, Ashley Curtis, and colleagues across the middle school for helping her through year one. She also describes what a special education teacher's day looks like and how Viking Time helps middle schoolers stay organized and connected.
"Special education isn't a place to go," Anna said. "It's a service they receive to help them thrive in the whole school community."
