Volume 5/Issue 30 - March 15th, 2026

What do you do with your free time...

Socrates famously had a 'Triple Filter' for everything he said: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it useful? In a world where it’s easier to talk down about others than to build something of our own, this week, I believe it is important to revisit why 'small talk' about people is the ultimate productivity killer—and how to trade it for ideas that actually matter.

We are so proud of these young musicians for being accepted into this year’s Nebraska Class C All State Band! Even more impressive, three of them were named first chair on their respective instruments!

Jessica Bauers and Urijah Grant will be performing in the High School Symphonic Band, while Dylan de la Rosa Armas and Cora Kooyman will be performing in the Junior High Honor Band. The event will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Kearney High School.

Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment! Your hard work and dedication to music continue to make us proud.

    Message from Mr. Tejkl

    What you say...

    Good afternoon!

I hope you enjoyed your spring break and were able to enjoy with family or whomever you wanted to! Nothing better than wrapping spring break up with a winter blizzard and white out conditions! I don't know why anyone would want to leave this state when you can experience all four seasons in a 24 hour period ha.

Socrates famously had a "Triple Filter" for everything he said: Is it true? Is it kind? Is it useful? In a world where it’s easier to talk down about others than to build something of our own, we’re revisiting why "small talk" about people is the ultimate productivity killer—and how to trade it for ideas that actually matter.

In our district, the hallways are more than just passing areas between classrooms; they are the arteries of our culture, carrying the weight of every word we choose to share. When we look at our interactions through the Socratic lens of Truth, Goodness, and Utility, we realize that talking down about others isn't just a lapse in kindness—it is a drain on our collective mission. For our staff, this means shifting the energy away from the friction of personality and toward the fire of innovation, ensuring that our professional discussions are rooted in facts and constructive intent. For our students, it serves as a live demonstration of integrity, showing them that a person’s influence isn't measured by how loudly they can critique, but by how effectively they can contribute. Even in our partnership with patrons and the broader communities, this standard transforms "noise" into "notice," filtering out the distractions of hearsay so we can focus on the solutions that actually move the needle for our kids. When we commit to speaking only what is verified, helpful, and necessary, we stop decorating rooms we don’t live in and start building a foundation where every student, teacher, and parent feels the elevation of a truly "strong-minded" community.

At the end of the day, our students won’t remember the policies we debated or the rumors that drifted through the hallways. They will remember the culture we built and the way we spoke to—and about—one another. Let’s commit to being a district that chooses ideas over individuals, and growth over gossip. After all, the most important lesson we teach isn’t in a textbook; it’s in the integrity of our collective voice.

Have a great rest of your week!

Quote of the week to reflect on:

"Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people."

    Socrates

    Sincerely,

    Tucker Tejkl
