Spring is Here!

I hope everyone had opportunities to enjoy the April vacation in ways that fit your family! We took a little road trip over break and visited 1000 Islands, NY for some rest and Six Flags for some thrills.

As we roll into spring at the Osgood, I hope you are all able to attend the special events that bring our community together. The Art Show on 7 May is one that students love, as they get to show their favorite piece as well as participate in fun art activities. It is an event that you can drop into anytime 5:00-6:30. As of this message, we are still planning to hold Snapper Sneaker Day, as Mr. Dykas is expected to return in time. However, our spring music concerts are canceled. We are so glad that students were able to perform in the winter concerts and they are still enjoying music classes during their specials times.

Special thanks to the PSO volunteers who have been working hard on our upcoming in-school events including Staff Appreciation Week and STEM week! You will receive more information from PSO and classroom teachers for these events.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Kindly,
Amy

Kindergarten Registrations is 11 February- 17 April

Registration: 2/11-4/17

Kindergarten Screening: 19-20 May

Orientation: 4 June 6:00pm

Registration is initiated online on the Osgood Website. We would like families to be registered by 17 April, 2026 so that we can plan for screening as well as staffing for 2026-27. The number of kindergarteners enrolled directly affects the number of kindergarten teachers we have! This is vital information for staffing overall. After a family registers a student, they will receive an email to schedule a screening on 19 or 20 May. Screeners are used to create balanced classes and to begin to get to know our new students. Families will bring an original Birth Certificate to the screening so that we can take a copy.

Please contact the school for any questions:

Bus Evacuation Drills

On Thursday, 16 April, we held bus evacuation drills. Students learn about the safety features in the buses and how to safely evacuate out the back in an emergency. We conduct these drills at least 2x per year. Thank you to our bus drivers and our Transportation Supervisor, Kim Zitoli, for coordinating the drills!

Spare Clothes Needed

April and May tend to be the muddy season around these parts and we try our best to help students stay clean. However, sometimes accidents happen! Our nurses' office is looking for gently used clothing for wardrobe changes, particularly leggings/sweatpants sized 5-8. We can always use tops and new underwear as well.

Also, if you borrow tops or bottoms from the nurses' office, please wash and return them.

Bus Drivers Needed

The Cohasset Public Schools Transportation Department is currently seeking qualified school bus drivers to join our team.

We are looking for dependable, safety-focused individuals who are interested in playing an important role in our school community. Our drivers are often the first and last school representatives our students see each day, and they help ensure a safe and positive start and end to every school day.

Applicants must hold a valid CDL with a school bus endorsement and have a clean driving record.

If you or someone you know may be interested in this opportunity, please contact:

Thank you for your continued support of our schools and for helping us keep our students safe.

How to Make a Plan Change
zoom_out_map Show in original size

Plan Changes on PUP

Please enter any dismissal changes into PickUp Patrol under :Dismissal Changes"...there is no need to write additional notes. You can add notes about reason for absences, etc. in the notes (Step 4 below). This includes:

  • absences
  • early dismissals
  • Enrichment classes
  • Change of Pick-up Person (must be on Aspen emergency contact list)

PickUp Patrol populates our lists for where we expect students to be for dismissal. So, if there are no changes, we will be expecting children to be where they go for their typical plan. The cut-off time to make changes is 2:00.

Let us know if you have any questions or have any input as you use the platform:

Calling All Green-Minded Caregivers!

PSO is partnering with us to create a group of caregivers who would support the Osgood in going more green. Julia Hook, parent of twin kindergarteners, is helping to coordinate a Green Team, who will focus on maximizing our garden usage and expanding into more green activities such as recycling, composting, riding and walking to school, etc.

We believe in not only teaching valuable green habits, but involving students and community in as many ways as possible. However, we cannot do it alone. If you are interested in being a part of this effort, please reach out to Julia Hook at Jul3306@gmail.com

Resources for Families Who Receive SNAP Benefits

If your family is impacted by the potential loss of SNAP benefits, we encourage you to reach out to your child's school counselor or the following Cohasset community resources. You are not alone. We are here to help and support you.

What Expertise Can YOU Offer Our Students?

Cohasset is a community comprised of experts in a wide variety of fields. In order to deliver more authentic, hands-on, project-based learning experiences to students, the Cohasset School Committee, in collaboration with district leadership, is working to develop a "Community Resource Guide." This Guide will serve as an invaluable resource to our classroom teachers and school staff, as it will provide them with a comprehensive database of all stakeholders and interested parties who are willing to share their background, experience, and expertise in furtherance of our mission to Empower Students to Improve Communities.

There are many different ways in which one might participate in this endeavor, including classroom presentations, hosting or facilitating field trips, creating shadow or internship opportunities, or assisting with project-based learning experiences.

If you are willing to share your unique talents, passions, interests, and/or expertise, please click this link to fill out a brief interest form. We thank you for your willingness to volunteer your time in order to deliver impactful learning experiences to CPS students.

Onward and Upward,

Your School Committee
