A Note from Administration A Note from Administration

Dear Green Sea Floyds Elementary Families,

Welcome to a new school year! We are excited to begin 2026–2027 with our students, families, and staff.

Before we look ahead, we want to celebrate an incredible accomplishment. We ended last school year with the highest achievement scores ever recorded at Green Sea Floyds Elementary! This is no small feat. It reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our students and staff, along with the continued support of our families.

Our students and staff showed greatness, and we are incredibly proud of what they accomplished. As we begin this new year, we will build on that success with a continued focus on strong reading and writing skills across all grade levels and content areas. We know that reading and writing are the foundation for success in every area of learning. We are committed to helping every student grow as a confident reader, thoughtful writer, and lifelong learner.

The foundation has been built, the momentum is strong, and we are ready to make 2026–2027 our best year yet. There is greatness in our school community, and together, we will continue to bring it out in every child.

Thank you for partnering with us. We are excited for all that this year will bring!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Cox and Mr. Knight

Come meet your child's teacher and learn more about the exciting year ahead! Important: All adults and students will be screened upon entry. To help ensure a smooth and safe process, we encourage guests to avoid bringing bags.

First Week Arrival Procedures First Week Arrival Procedures

School Arrival Time - 7:00 - 7:25

7:25 - Tardy Bell Rings

Students should be in class when the tardy bell rings.

CD-K Parents - First Week Walk-In Guidelines:

To ensure school security, entry into the building is limited to CD-K parents on staggered days only. Parents may walk their CD-K students to class only on their assigned staggered attendance day. Beginning Wednesday, August 26, all CD and K students will report to the cafeteria and their teacher will walk them to class.

To maintain a secure environment for all students:

  • CD-K parents must enter through the front office.
  • All CD-K parents will be screened upon entry and must have a photo ID to go down the hallway.
  • Please arrive early so the line does not back up.

1st - 5th Grade - First Week Guidelines:

Students in Grades 1–5 will enter the school independently. Staff will be stationed throughout the building to welcome students and assist them in finding their classrooms, if needed. To help our students build independence and ensure a smooth start to the school day, parents and families will not be permitted to walk 1st - 5th grade students to their classrooms. We appreciate your support and understanding as we help our students confidently begin their school day.

Morning Drop-Off Procedures Morning Drop-Off Procedures

To ensure the safety of all students, staff, and families, please follow these important drop-off guidelines each morning:

1. Use the Drop-Off Circle Only

All students must be dropped off in the designated drop-off circle.

Do not drop off students in the parking lot. This creates unsafe situations and disrupts traffic flow.

2. Line Up with the Gate Opening:

When pulling up, please align your vehicle's passenger door with the open area in the fence. This helps students safely exit directly onto the sidewalk.
3. Have Your Belongings Ready:

Make sure your child is ready to exit the vehicle with all belongings (backpack, lunchbox, etc.) before you enter the drop-off line.
4. Stay in Line - Do Not Pass Other Cars:

For everyone's safety, please remain in the line and do not attempt to drive around other vehicles in the drop-off area. Our staff is working hard to keep the line moving efficiently.
5. Arrive early:

Please arrive early enough so the drop-off line does not back up at the last minute. All students must be in their classroom by the 7:25 tardy bell.

Your cooperation makes a big difference in keeping our mornings safe, smooth, and positive for all students.

Reminder: Transportation Changes Reminder: Transportation Changes

Bus Rider Transportation Changes

If a student is to ride to a different stop than their regular location, a parent will need to send a written note or email for the change to be made. To ensure student safety, no student(s) will be released or have changes in transportation on the basis of a telephone call. All transportation changes must be sent in writing or by emailing BOTH Mrs. Lee and Mrs. Crystal Cox. No transportation changes should be emailed to the classroom teacher.

  • Markia Lee - mlee003@horrycountyschools.net

  • Crystal Cox - ccox001@horrycountyschools.net

In addition, if an email is being sent please call the office to verify that Mrs. Lee or Mrs. Cox have received the email. Some emails go to our spam folder. This will ensure emails have been received by the front office. All emails and notes must be provided to the front office prior to 1:00, so they can be verified and approved by the bus office. No notes will be accepted after 1:00 pm.

Car Rider Transportation Changes

If a student is not regularly a car rider, but is to be picked up from school at the end of the school day, a parent will need to send a written note or email for the student to be a car rider that day. To ensure student safety, no student(s) will be released or have changes in transportation on the basis of a telephone call. Please email BOTH Mrs. Lee and Mrs Cox. No transportation changes should be emailed to the classroom teacher.

Reminder: Early Dismissal Reminder: Early Dismissal

Early Dismissal from the Front Office

If a parent arrives in the front office before 2:25 PM, due to safety concerns, we will not be waiting until the dismissal bell to call student(s). The student will be called at the time of parent arrival to be signed out and dismissed. If a student is signed out early from the front office, it will be coded as an early sign out and be unexcused unless there is a medical note for the early sign out.

If a student is a daily car rider, please ensure that you display your car rider sign in your car window when picking up the student/students. Car rider signs will be distributed to students and parents during the first week of school.

Bus Reminders: CD, K, and 1st Grade Tagged Students Bus Reminders: CD, K, and 1st Grade Tagged Students

The Tagged Child Program is designed to ensure that young riders on school buses are delivered to the correct bus stops with proper supervision. All students who attend child development, kindergarten, or first-grade classes are considered Tagged Children.

  • The child's tag must be worn by the child until that child exits the bus and has supervision at the bus stop.
  • All tagged children (CD, K, and 1st graders) must have supervision at the bus stop before the child is allowed to depart the bus.
  • When at the bus stop of a tagged student, the driver determines that the child does not have supervision present, the driver will immediately contact their supervisor via radio, and in most cases return the tagged child to his/her school.

Rising With Reading and Writing at GSFE

At Green Sea Floyds Elementary, we believe every child can become a successful reader and writer, and we are excited to continue our focus on literacy this school year!

Our district has set an ambitious goal for 95% of students to read at or above grade level, and we are committed to doing our part to help make that goal a reality. Along with strengthening reading skills, we will place an emphasis on writing across all grade levels and content areas. Students will have frequent opportunities to write, communicate their thinking, build vocabulary, and develop their ideas with clarity and confidence.

Throughout the school year, our teachers and staff will continue to provide strong literacy instruction, opportunities to read and write every day, and targeted support based on each child’s individual needs. We also know that literacy growth happens at school and at home. Families can make a tremendous difference by reading with their children, talking about books, asking questions, and encouraging them to write and share their ideas.

Together, we can build a community of readers and writers and help our students rise with reading, grow through writing, and reach their full potential!

We Rise With Reading and Writing!

Save the Date: Family Literacy Night

We invite all families to join us for our Family Literacy Night on Thursday, September 10, from 5:30–6:30 PM.

Come learn more about our literacy goals for your child for the upcoming year!
