Richey First Take
September 6, 2026
Updates from Dr. McCormick
Dear Richey Families,
We have officially wrapped up our first week of school! It has been a wonderful few days getting to know your children, building our classroom community, and establishing our daily routines.
This week, our primary focus was helping students feel comfortable, confident, and excited about the year ahead. We spent time learning classroom procedures, exploring our learning spaces, and participating in team-building activities to help everyone make new friends.
Here are a few quick updates and reminders as we head into week two:
Daily Routines: The students did a fantastic job learning our morning and dismissal procedures. To help keep mornings running smoothly, please ensure your child arrives on time each day.
Communication: Expect regular updates regarding what we are learning in class. Please feel free to reach out via email or our class communication app if you ever have questions or updates regarding your child.
Water & Snacks: Remember to send a labeled water bottle and a healthy daily snack with your child each morning.
Thank you so much for your support, flexibility, and encouragement during this transition week. Partnering with you is the foundation of a successful school year, and I am thrilled to work alongside you.
Enjoy the extra day with your family!
Warmly,
Kelly McCormick
Principal
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
Arrival Reminders
Drop-Off Time: Doors open at 8:45am. Please do not drop students off before this time, as supervision is not available.
Drop-Off Location: Use the designated carpool line in front of the school. All students must exit the vehicle on the curbside for safety.
Tardiness: The school day begins promptly at 9:05am. Students arriving after this time must enter through the main entrance with a parent/guardian to sign in and receive a pass.
Pedestrians: Walkers and bicyclists should cross only at designated crosswalks with the crossing guard.
Dismissal Reminders
Dismissal Time: Regular dismissal begins at 3:45pm.
Pick-Up Location: Please follow the traffic flow pattern and display your student's car tag clearly in the front windshield.
Early Departure: Any early pick-ups must occur before 3:15pm to avoid main dismissal traffic and disruption to the classroom.
Transportation Changes: If your child has a change in their usual transportation plan, send a written note or notify the main office on the day of the change.
Traffic & Safety Guidelines
Stay in Your Vehicle: To keep the car pool line moving smoothly and safely, drivers must remain inside the car.
Buckling Children: Please work with your child this weekend on buckling themselves into the car. If your child needs assistance, please pull forward to a designated parking space to secure them before driving away.
Device-Free Zone: Avoid using mobile phones while driving on school property.
Speed Limit: Maintain a maximum speed of 5 mph on school grounds.
New Arrival Procedure
In order to ensure the safety of our students and staff our arrival procedure will change this year.
- ALL students will enter through the door on the far left side of the building (see picture below).
- Students may begin exiting their cars along any part of the sidewalk.
- Adults who need to speak with the main office will ring the bell at the main entrance and will be buzzed in to go directly to the main office.
Reminder: doors open at 8:45am each morning. There is NO supervision for students who are dropped off before that time.
