Principal's Message Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Happy New Year! We are excited to welcome our students and families back as we begin a fresh start in January. This time of year brings new goals, renewed focus, and wonderful opportunities for growth—both academically and socially. As we return to our routines, consistent attendance and punctuality will be especially important. Every instructional minute matters, and being present each day helps students build confidence, maintain strong learning habits, and stay connected to their classmates and teachers. January is also a great time to reinforce expectations and set positive goals at home and at school. Our staff is committed to providing engaging instruction, meaningful support, and a safe, nurturing environment where all students can thrive. We appreciate your continued partnership in supporting your child’s success. Thank you for being an essential part of our school community. We look forward to a strong and successful second half of the school year!

Positive Office Referrals

We are excited to share our Positive Office Referrals Board, which celebrates students who consistently demonstrate our campus expectations through kindness, responsibility, and leadership. When students go above and beyond, they are recognized with a Positive Office Referral and proudly displayed on our board for the entire campus to see. This initiative helps us reinforce positive behaviors and build a culture where students feel seen, valued, and celebrated. We are so proud of our students for making great choices each day!

Cub Buck Store

Our Cub Buck Store is one of the ways we celebrate positive choices and hard work at school! Throughout each 9-week grading period, students earn Cub Bucks for demonstrating positive behavior, strong effort, responsibility, and being great learners and classmates. At the end of the 9 weeks, students get the opportunity to shop at the Cub Buck Store and use the Cub Bucks they’ve earned to purchase fun rewards. This system helps reinforce positive habits, goal-setting, and pride in doing their best every day!

Creativity: Using your imagination to create something or solve a problem.

This month the Counselors will be going into the classrooms to give lessons on the January Character word, CREATIVITY. Creativity is using your imagination to create something new or solve a problem.

First grade students will be using a book entitled The Dot by Reynolds to help foster creativity. Second graders will be using their imagination to design the ideal school after reading If I Built a School by Van Dusen. Third grade students will look at true story about a man who used creativity to turn a failure into a popular success with the book WHOOSH! By Barton.

Third grade students will be taking a field trip to the high school at the end of January to tour the CTE program, to learn about future career options, as a continuation of our CCMR lessons here at Wylie Elementary.

Happy January! Kelly Brown and Rob Helwig

📅 Attendance Matters

Please make every effort to have students at school on time each day. Consistent attendance helps students stay engaged and succeed academically.

⏰ Arrival & Dismissal Times
Be sure students arrive on time and follow dismissal procedures to help keep everyone safe. Please continue to use extra caution during arrival and dismissal. Follow staff directions, avoid phone use, and use designated crosswalks.

January is a great time to reset routines at home—reading nightly, completing homework, and getting plenty of rest support student success.

🧥 Weather-Appropriate Clothing
Cooler temperatures may continue. Please send students dressed appropriately for outdoor recess and changing weather.

🗣️ Communication
Stay connected by checking backpacks, folders, and school messages regularly. Reach out to your child’s teacher or the school office with questions or concerns.
