14th ANNUAL CELEBRATE THE ARTS & COMMUNITY NIGHT
What an incredible celebration of community and student creativity!
The 14th-annual Celebrate the Arts and Community Night was a vibrant display of voice, learning and collaboration. We’re grateful to everyone who helped make the event a success, to all who attended, and to every single student who shared their passion and talent.
Thanks also go to the community partners who joined—our local libraries, Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO), CVSD Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC), and Children’s Integrated Services—and to the local restaurants who generously donated food to feed our community: Good Times, Papa Nick’s, Pizza 44, Hinesburg Public House, CVU Food Service and Folino’s.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE HCS MATHCOUNTS TEAM!
The HCS Mathcounts team placed 3rd at the state Mathcounts competition! There were 16 schools from around Vermont competing. Team Members: Alex Collier, Max Collier, Seamus O'Neill, and Oliver Ratta.
HCS WELCOMES CLIMATE SCIENCE ARTIST JILL PELTO
Hinesburg Community School welcomed artist Jill Pelto to class in late March, where she collaborated with more than a dozen groups of students as an artist in residence. Jill is based in Bellingham, Washington, and communicates science through her artwork—scenes of glaciers, oceans, fields and forests, some of which incorporate graphs and other shapes that tell the story of an ecosystem and the changing climate.
Jill worked with students on watercolor techniques and shared why and how she communicates science through her art. “The reason I put graphs into my artwork is to tell stories,” she told a group of eighth graders.
See Jill's work here and a gallery of photos from her visit here.
