Principal's Note

Good evening Middle School Families,

Winter arrived in full force this weekend! Our middle school students continue to show up even stronger. Their consistent effort, positive attitudes, and willingness to learn are evident each day as they work toward growth in and out of the classroom.

This was on full display during our Night of the Elephant talent show. It takes real courage to step onto a stage and share one’s creativity with peers, and our student performers did just that. Equally impressive was our audience, who met that bravery with kindness, respect, and enthusiastic support. Together, they created an environment that celebrated risk-taking and self-expression—hallmarks of a healthy school community.

Beyond the stage, many of our students are demonstrating dedication and discipline through their athletic commitments, braving cold winter evenings for practices and games. In the classroom, students are working hard academically while also developing essential life skills such as time management, organization, reflection, and accountability. Middle school is a pivotal time when these habits begin to take root. It is also a time when students are discovering who they are and beginning to imagine who they hope to become.

Our first two weeks of Lifetime Activities have been a success. While recent sessions brought colder temperatures for our outdoor groups, we are closely monitoring conditions as we approach the final day on Thursday, the 29th. Safety remains our top priority. As hearty Vermonters, learning how to safely enjoy winter weather—and find joy and fresh air during the colder months—is a lifetime activity in itself. We will continue to follow VPA guidelines, ensure students have appropriate gear, and make thoughtful decisions based on conditions. Many activities are held indoors and are not impacted by the weather. Students participating in outdoor activities will receive additional communication from activity leaders later this week.

Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support as we guide students through this important and formative stage of their lives.

Warmly,
Jennefer Paquette
Middle School Principal

Next Eligibility Check - End of Quarter 2 - January 23rd

There is an eligibility check coming up! Talk with your child and check PowerSchool! Don't let it wait for the last minute. They should all know how to log on to their PowerSchool account.

Quarter 3 ends January 23. We will be checking eligibility on Wednesday, January 28th.

We provide numerous eligibility checks. These eligibility checks do not result in removal from an extra-curricular. However, if a student is failing (less than 2.5) two or more classes, at the time of the eligibility check, they will be expected to attend Academic Success for 8 days in order to continue participating in the extra-curricular (sports and clubs). Our goal is to support student participation while placing a priority on academics. There is more information in the Athletic and Co-Curricular Handbook (linked below).

The dates of the Eligibility Checks are: Sept. 26th, Oct. 31st*, Dec. 12, Jan 23rd*, March 6th, April, 3rd*, May 8th and June 15th*. The four dates with asterisk's are the end of Quarter 1, 2, 3, and 4. You will receive a MS Report Card in the mail shortly after the end of a Quarter. We will remind you, and students, of these as they come up. However, it it important to get this on your radar early.

We want to help students develop the consistent habits and routines that allow them to maintain a steady level of success. We hope to avoid the "let it slip and then scramble' when an eligibility check is coming up.
