Parental Drop Off North Side - Part Deux

Parents - All student drop off is on the south side of the building. Dropping students off on the street or in the teacher parking lot is not permitted and dangerous. We will be having extra patrols assisting us in monitoring the safety of our students. This is important particularly with daylight being much less in the winter months. We have had a few near misses recently. Thank you.

DLMS Personal Electronic Device Policy

As personal technology has been increasing its causation of significant disruptions to the educational environment, social media drama, and negatively impacting the overall well being of students, (particularly middle school age) many districts are prohibiting the use of these devices during the instructional day. DLMS will be implementing a policy to eliminate the use of personal electronic devices during our school day - 8:15-3:25 - for the 2026-2027 school year. Following is the policy created by staff and administration of DLMS.

Cell Phones and Personal Electronic Communication Devices

The use of all phones and other personal non-school issued electronic devices from 8:15am to 3:25pm, is prohibited. Cell phones and other non-school electronic devices shall be turned off/silenced and locked in the student's issued locker during the school day. If parents/guardians need to be in contact with their student, they are asked to call the main office. This applies to student field trips as well.

Consequences for violation of policy, at the discretion of school administrators , are as follows:

1st Offense: Device is taken to the office for student pick up at the end of the school day.

2nd Offense: Device is take to the office, an administrator will hold device and student will need to talk to administrator at the end of the day to pick up device.

3rd Offense: Device is taken to the office and must be picked up by parent/guardian and visit with administrator.

Progressive disciplinary action will be taken for further violations. Students refusing to turn over a device or becoming disrespectful/argumentative/defiant with staff will be subject to further disciplinary action.

The faculty, staff, and students of DLMS maintain a reasonable expectation of privacy while at school, on campus, and at school-related activities and events. Explicit permission by be obtained prior to recording others in the school setting. A student identified as improperly posting to social media or using a device to transmit unrequested or unwanted images or recordings is subject to disciplinary action in accordance with district and school policy.

Detroit Lakes Middle School is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged cell phones or personal electronic devices.
