Student Work Showcase: Big Doings In BEEP!
From Laura Tanis, BEEP Teacher, on their recent excursion to Trader Joe's:
"Well, that field trip was nothing short of epic! The students were ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! We walked to Cleveland Circle and admired the beauty of spring in our neighborhood. We got to see lots of PK-Ta houses along the way.
When we arrived at Cleveland Circle, the big yellow shuttle was waiting. We received a very warm welcome from the T operators and boarded. We had our very own shuttle bus! We enjoyed the sights on our drive, especially seeing all the construction vehicles and machinery working on the C line.
At Trader Joe’s, we were greeted by store manager Gaby, who took us all around the store, pointing out how it was set up and sharing fun facts about Trader Joe’s products. We learned that the Brookline Trader Joe’s is one of the top five Trader Joe’s stores nationwide for sales, going through 5,000 bananas a day! We got to go upstairs and see where crew members prepared the samples and took their breaks. As a parting gift, Gaby gave us a Trader Joe’s freezer bag filled with ice pops and frozen treats, which we enjoyed after Rest Time.
The return trip was equally as smooth as our departure had been. The shuttle bus was right there waiting, and we got on right away and headed back. This time, we rode with some other Brookline residents, all of whom were impressed by how well behaved the kids were. The return trip took a bit longer because little legs were growing tired, but we made it back and everyone was happy."
And, the Brookline Fire Department visited BEEP and had a blast with our youngest scholars. See their facebook post below:

In Closing
Memorial Day weekend is here. When we return on Tuesday, there will be only 23 days left of school. The summer will be here sooner than we know! In the days that remain, I assure you we will be packing in the learning and celebrations.
Be good to yourself and to each other!
~ Asa
Our Land Acknowledgement
This parcel of land that our school sits upon is a special and sacred place.
Before this place was a Town, before our school was here, before this neighborhood was called “The Settlement” or “Chestnut Hill,” and before this land was a farm, this land was held by the Massachusett, the people Indigenous to this place. The Massachusett were the caretakers of this site, living full lives, raising families, and burying their dead right here. We recognize and honor this history, and seek to create thoughtful land stewards and citizens for generations to come.
As a public school, our primary objective is to ensure access, membership, and participation of all community members in our care; with this land acknowledgment we state our willingness to work towards that vision where all feel a true and abiding sense of belonging.
