Principals' Message Principals' Message

Dear SCS Families and Caregivers,

Today, we write with a number of celebrations of the season that we hope will bring a smile to your face:

  • With the rain falling heavy this week, we were impressed by the commitment of spring planting still taking place. Thank you to Erika Monaghan and the dedicated team of garden stewards. Every Monday, a group of staff members has been hard at work nurturing our various beds.

  • The art department organized a special author/illustrator visit with Amy Guglielmo today. She shared her books and creative art with our students, who in turn, created a communal masterpiece. Students walked away feeling inspired as artists and authors.

  • At the middle level, we are pleased to share that the hacky sack trend sweeping the nation has taken root at 7/8 recess. We love seeing kids connecting “IRL,” having fun, and learning new skills. Check out the photos below.

  • Our facilities team installed a door on the new greenhouse, which is just awaiting the plastic wrap to complete its shell. Our Student Leadership groups are excited to be mapping out the interior design! We are fortunate to be in receipt of two generous grants (one from the Shelburne-Charlotte-Hinesburg Interfaith Project and one from the Captain Planet Foundation - another 90’s blast from the past) that will allow us to outfit the space. You can check it out in person at the SCS Informances next week.

  • Finally, the bees will be returning to the “Bee Vestibule” this weekend! We look forward to having the buzz back on campus and having our students learn the ins and outs of apiculture. Thanks to Michelle Barth and the dedicated students of the Bee Club for bringing this tradition back to life.

We wish you all a wonderful weekend filled with sunshine. Come check out Shrek Jr. at CVU if you can!

In partnership,

Antonia, Jen and Brett

The SCS Administrative team

It’s Prevention Week: Small Conversations Have a Big Impact

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) team supports students in grades 5–12 by promoting well-being, prevention, and healthy decision-making, and serves as a resource for both students and caregivers. Each May, communities across the country recognize National Prevention Week as a time to promote healthy choices, positive relationships, and mental well-being for young people. Prevention efforts are important for students. The skills children build early, such as coping with stress, making safe decisions, and asking for help, can have a lasting impact on their health and success. Through education, connection, and supportive adults, Prevention Week reminds us that prevention is not just about avoiding risky behaviors, but about helping all students develop the confidence and resilience they need to thrive. Read more tips and conversation starters.
