Soar into Stories is a school wide book club that has taken flight this year at McDermott!
Each month our Falcons will meet up with their buddy class, have a read aloud, and a writing activity that is an extension of the story!
All of the books have a Social Emotional Theme and lead to great classroom discussions!
Our September book was That's Not My Name!
Students were able to illustrate and write what they love about their name, and work on their peer to peer relationship skills at the same time!
Literacy Caravan w/2nd Grade
The San Antonio Public Library Foundation will be bringing their Literacy Caravan to McDermott this year! It's an amazing opportunity for our 2nd graders!
The Literacy Caravan will bring an engaging literacy program to our students and will aid in fostering a love for reading at an early age! They will visit us monthly!
During the Literacy Caravan's visit, they will energize students by reading a book to them, engaging them in educational reading activities inside the caravan. It will include well designed smart board activities/discovery activities and a choice of a free healthy snack, as well as a book to take home with them!
Our collective goal is for students to leave the Literacy Caravan visits excited and fired up about reading!
