3/3/2025 - A Perfect Society: Genetics, Eugenics, and the Creation of Healthy Society
Congratulations to our 10th and 11th grade biology students (and teachers: Sara Plowman and Bailey Field) for their courage and dedication in sharing their knowledge of genetics and eugenics with the 8th graders at JAMS on Monday, March 3! Engaging younger students in a discussion about the ethical implications of using technology to create the healthiest population is no small task. It’s not easy to capture the attention of a young audience, let alone educate and inspire them. Your efforts to make these complex issues accessible and thought-provoking are commendable.
Thank you for your hard work and passion!
3/5/2025 - American Studies update
Last week Juniors traveled to the Autry Museum of the American West. Students were led through three exhibits which deepened their understanding of California Native Americans’ past history, present lives and future visions. They visited Reclaiming the El Camino, Future Imaginariez: Indigenous Art, Fashion and Technology as well as ReVOlt 1680/2180: Sirens & Sikas.
Sarah Wilson, Director of Education, provided a private guide, but also visited our class to deliver a lecture using museum artifacts she titles, 600 years in 60 minutes.” Students explored what Native Americans were protesting during their 18 months stay on Alcatraz Island from 1969-1971. History comes alive and connects to our current lives when we are able to engage in the field so meaningfully.
